Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: the most delicious and deadly fruit?

I don't have an answer to your question, but a toxic purple fruit that resembles jamun could be Atropa belladonna

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Iguanas
« on: July 14, 2024, 06:55:59 PM »
According to the Urban Farming Institute in Florida, they have developed a pretty straightforward technique to keep iguanas away. I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere.

They urge against trying to use heavy netting and entirely enclosing your plants/trees; the idea is that eventually iguanas will find their way in. Rather, they say you just need a 4' high rail and drape 1/2" bird netting. The keys are supposedly:

  • Double up the netting
  • Keep the netting loose
  • It should be 4' or higher
  • It does not need a top

Here is a video where they discuss the approach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vegbk_ZoQKo&t=626s

I am going to give this a try. What I like about it is you can just build a 4' perimeter around anything you want to protect, including tall trees. The bird netting is almost invisible so it doesn't have to be an eyesore.
