Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit hunting in Vancouver, Canada
« on: March 25, 2025, 03:24:51 AM »
Does anybody know of any good shops to look for exotic fruit in Vancouver? I know that they don’t grow there, but I feel like whenever I go somewhere in Canada, I end up finding a lot of weird fruit in the markets. I think their import restrictions must be less strict. I will be going to Vancouver soon and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jaboticaba leaf burn
« on: February 18, 2025, 10:34:32 PM »
Does anybody know what is going on with my jaboticaba “Sabara”? The leaf tips are burning and new growth is small, weak, and also burns on the tips. It is in full sun, Encinitas, California, zone 10b. This is the second year it is doing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Have a great day!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What is this Papaya cultivar?
« on: November 13, 2024, 09:31:11 PM »
While I was in Guam a few months back, I visited my uncle and he had a tree loaded with huge round papayas, about the size of a bowling ball. The flesh ripened to a reddish-orange color and was nice and sweet with no weird flavor. Can anyone identify this cultivar?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Banana tree snapped
« on: September 10, 2024, 08:10:05 PM »

My banana tree snapped :(
Both the pseudostem and the peduncle snapped. The tree was leaning heavily for the past month, so I bought some stakes from Home Depot and propped it up last week. However, the part of the tree around a foot and a half above the support kept bending down, and today it finally gave out, and as that snapped, the curved peduncle also snapped under the weight of the fruit. What can I do next time to prevent this? Also there was no signs of ripening in the fruit, so do yall have recipe suggestions for unripe bananas?
