Central Fl should be perfect to grow them.
But I would be hesitant growing them on the southern coasts due to lack of chill hours
I have always thought someone could start a commercial farm on the east coast in southern GA/Northern FL

to my knowledge, a lot of sellers....I mean a lot of buyers in the USA have been importing grafted durian from Indonesia I believe and they do supply phtyosanitary certs.

if u are trying to do it for 2-4 months a year you need to go plastic or else the tree ain't gonna fotosynthesize ya know?
Or you can do your frost cloth but then take it off during the day...
Or is the frost cloth good enough to let light in?

Thanks Kaz!
Makes me laugh because when I sell seeds, I'll always throw in extras, but I sometimes misjudge and send people like twice the amount they ordered ;D ;D
I always underestimate seed ###

Yes plinia nana is freestone
as well as plinia sp. diamantina

Diamantina is one of my families favorite jabos because of the freestone seed
But yeah, I think the only guy who is fruiting them in the USA is Luiz right now

Also, everyone's nanas always die lol
people get them to flower and then they die

So it would be great to hybridize, but gonna be a while until we can figure out growing them in the USA...

There is a seedless jaboticaba, but I can't say anything else or you may not see me again ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Yep lots of random seedy annonas
Lot of talk of foreste one being a Montana variant

In terms of annonas,
The common ones are the best
There’s some good tasting ones that are rare but hard to grow
Like cerrado types

I would highly recommend you to focus on common ones like rollinia
Cherimoya
Custard apple
Sugar apple etc
Those are tried and true

Check out my
Video tasting of Annona emarginata😂

It’s normal for jabos to have multiple trunks
And it’s not detrimental in the long run
Even if different plants
Come up from polyembryonic seed

No one really foliar feeds with 20-20-20
Most of the times it’s going to be chelated iron to treat chlorosis

Something lower would be more chill like holly tone most people would say to give lower N to these plants

Thanks for the shoutout!

Yes I did go see the tree this last May
Did see a fruit rip but missed the season too early?

Here’s a video I did
https://youtu.be/ZEYu3nu7K-M?si=RQjJZK-OpqU2o5It

A few notes
1. Tree too tall to get pollen
2. There are several trees around the area all on the hydroelectric plant
3. Need to ask them in advance to see the tree

And fruiting times are all wack
I talked to my contact and said mid May but I guess it swaps or something
They said November and another paper said July
I think july may be the best chance
It is very similar to cambuca
Definitely hybrids can occur I would assume but they are geographically isolated for now lol

Please feel free to send me a message for more information!!!
Would love to talk more and see you succeed

It was fun seeing it but I made sure to have other fun stuff to do because there is no guarantee you’ll catch it in the fruiting season

I think mid 20s🥲
Maybe high towards 30s

I hear Adam’s got pretty big but would die back when they had a hard freeze
*lakoocha
I think his Kwai muk is still chilling

Looking great as always!
I lost my kwai muk to a freeze lol :P
That thing got nuked

I guess I may try again.
Kwai muk fruits are really good if you get a good quality tree.

Yep that’s a red
And also don’t separate
They’re too big
If you do you’ll stunt the trees!
Keep in the same pot and expect fruit within 1-2 years if everything is optimal.

Kelly is a great guy! Definitely recommend this seller

Also note that the eugenia repanda black is an amazing eugenia in terms of taste!
I like better than pitanga!!!

Thanks Brad!
Will start some seeds for rootstock then ;)

Since it’s a type B,
Is there any good type A you would recommend?
Thank you again!

Tampa tropical Asian nursery has a lot of good guavas
Not a lot of selection of Thai types in FL
Large selection in CA
Brought a few plants back
I got a seedless pink one called pinky😂
And a nice seedless one
Check with leaf in WPB
He has a nice crunchy seedless one
Edit: but it's white.
Never seen a red seedless one...I guess if you mean inside of the fruit is pink/red then yes
The Thai Ruby Seedless is like a pinkish inside I think.

And Pinky sounds like an awesome guava 😊
Ah ok!
I heard pinky is kinda oblong? I think it’s like the regular pink ones but no seeds and oblong🙂
Definitely will share scions with you guys once they grow out!

Appreciate all the info, found some cool plants! Unfortunately no crunchy seedless red guavas  :'(
Do you have a picture of what you’re looking for?
I haven’t seen a big red seedless guava yet!

I tried to get a few people to make me cocktail avocado trees and there is just no interest from the nursery side. For them it's just an added headache. Your best bet would be to buy all the trees you want, select one of them as the main tree, and then graft the others onto it over time. By having full trees instead of scions you can optimize the conditions and timing to harvest the budwood and graft. I suggest having at least one A and one B flowering type to help with production.

This is what I am doing with avocado and mamey. Adding Catalina to ON (cados), then gifting Catalna to mother in law. Just ordered Guatemalan #1 from Lara Farms, and adding to Key West mamey tree.

Not sure about A and B flowers on those varieties, but not an issue in our neighborhood, as there are other trees around for pollination. In your situation Ryan, would defintely seek both A and B types.

Catalina is an interesting cado. Good Cuban variety that starts to turn yellow when ripening.
Thanks Rob!
I’m thinking grafting myself is the easiest option also
G-1 mamey I hear is one of the best if not the best

After reading Coconut Cream's taste reviews
I am wondering if anyone can do a multigraft avocado?
I have some space opening up after I got a freeze in my greenhouse :-[ - lost a few mangos...but I wasn't a fan of ndm anyways...
I understand there has to be type a and b, so is someone able to do a nishikawa (B) and lula (A) multigraft tree for me?
Includes type a and b....or some other good avocado...like Reed (A)
 :-*

I guess scions work too,
will just need to plant a few avocado seeds from the grocery store and graft in 6+ months lol.

But thing is, I've never seen people really talking about flower types of avocados here.
Is it something not really important?
I assume it would be more important for someone like me where there are no neighboring avocado trees anywhere.

so on changyn.shop, it said all their plants are hermaphrodite grafted?  what does this mean?  I thought all the varieties on there are female.

On one of my friends test plots, we planted a row of Dongkui that I grafted with no males around and we got exactly 1 fruit last year. DongKui and perhaps some of the other varieties can produce fruit without a stand alone male/hermaphrodite but your yields may be significantly smaller and/or non existent until the tree gets larger. If you want a good crop, I highly recommend getting a male.

My White Honey which fruited last year and is blooming again this year has no visible male blooms last year. I will keep a close eye on it this year to see if male blooms show up.

Interesting observation!
I had the privilege of visiting Hapa Joe a couple weeks ago, and his biqi yangmei is setting fruits on its own (he has 5 females)
I maybe his other trees are making some male blooms or his biqi is making male blooms too. The fruitlets seem pretty big now, so I'm confident there is a chance they'll hold on.
Wonder if climate can influence the formation of male blooms or something?
Who knows, it's interesting as his are flowering so early in the season...

Well if anyone does want to become more educated on soil science,
the textbook I used was
The Nature and Properties of Soils
Really helpful and is the go to.

PH is definitely a key that decides nutrient availability. Only molybdenum availability increases when the pH increases.
Everything else will decrease.

What I think everyone can do though, is get their soil sampled.
The local ag department will do it for free or for a small cost
and then you can go from there when making decisions about fertilizing or changing pH. It's the most specific you can go since it's literally the soil under your feet.

But again, like said, FL soil is basically sand and if you go south FL then it turns to sand and then limerock
so it's pretty easy to generalize what needs to be fixed :P

23
Soil science is cool!
I guess the Floridians are salty because they have sand ;D
No cation exchange capacity for them!!!

Probably one of the best classes I took in high school.

It is definitely a huge subject that most people don't go in depth into.

24
White Sapote would do well there as well
9A still gets hard freezes here and there. White sapote would not be a go down there without protection.
As for persimmons, I've visited several persimmon farms around the area and panhandle and they grow
lots of varieties without trouble like mentioned by Kevin.
9A still gets enough chill hours you don't need to worry.

Could be a hybrid
I have had the best hybrid ever small like cemp but very crunchy
I like it better than all the jacks I’ve had
