Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Champa nursery
« on: December 17, 2024, 08:57:09 PM »
I tried sending an email but it said it’s full. I’ve tried calling with three different lines and nobody ever answers. I tried calling early in the morning as well to no avail.
If anybody knows anybody at Champa, I would appreciate it very much if they could on my behalf drop a word. I have no idea what else to do from here.
Thanks

I have had success calling with my wife's phone lol. I think they block people who call too much because of spam. Chargeback is a good option as well.

Yep! Some numbers show up as spam and they won't answer. Call from a different number, worked for me after a lot of headaches trying to figure out how to contact them....

Rose apple is pretty unique-bell pepper texture, sweet rose flavor.

Super helpful. Ive transplanted a 16 year old longan with success but I knew mangoes had a deeper tap root. Thanks all for the pointers.

Anyone done it? Seems like it would destroy the tap root. Is it likely to survive?

TIA!

TIA!

How did your bananas come out?  Are they getting close?  Mine are starting to go, hopefully they finish by new years.

Im not sure mine will be ready much sooner than yours. I assume these start to turn yellow when ready?

I've never tried it before so Ill report back. Ill probably wait to have the fruit seem more droopy before harvesting...unless the ants get it before I do.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone else fruiting Cecropia in San Diego?
« on: August 26, 2024, 10:39:04 PM »
Planted about 3 years ago. Comes out of winter a little worse than wear but bounces back each year....Looking forward to trying the fruit although I've heard mixed reviews. Anyone else fruiting Cecropia in S. CA or San Diego?

Sow Exotic had some XL trees. I got 2 and both about 5' tall...I'd call and see if they have any more XLs...

Assuming were talking California Ground Squirrels (which behave very differently than tree squirrels IMO), Im a fan of the squirrelanator (sp?) in the above post, than a shot to the head. They are a nuisance! I have heard chewing gum (unchewed) kills them but have not tried it.

This may just be a colloquial term or a name for any large cooking banana but if this is a specific variety banana and someone knows where to get one I am interested! TIA

My AeAe was full and ready to push banana flowers any day. Then recent storms occurred. One day it was leaning one way, the next day another. It blew into my fence and was too top heavy to upright. I cut off the top and moved the stump with all its buds. Two suckers remained at the original spot.

Will I get regeneration from this stump?

It could, I think its more likely to shoot up pups around the corm.

Coming along....I wouldn't say its a particularly fast grower but the fruit look cool!

17
Very cool, Have you grown and fruited Rosada llama at your place? Assuming you've tried the fruit, how does it compare to Atemoyas or Cherimoyas?

Yes, outside mostly organic decomposed manure 2 x year , 1 x year osmocote. Inside the tent gets liquid fertilizer pretty frequently.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Random yangmei pics
« on: June 29, 2024, 02:21:56 PM »
Here's some yangmei at my place. I have a mix of yangmei on M Cerifera, Pennsylvanica, Californica, and Rubra rootstock. Mostly named varieties but some unknown and some from seed. I've been growing some seedlings in a tent and some outside in semi shade just to compare how they do. Last 2 pics are some of my dragon fruit. Flower is a Connie Mayer DF.

Yangmei seedlings in tent.

Grafted yangmei on rubra on N-NE hillside without shade. These havent' been in the ground long but I think they will do well with this orientation.

Yangmei seedlings germinated and growing outside in mostly shade for now.

One of Bills imports (no visible RKN). Labeled as a male but have not seen any flowers. It looked like a failed graft when it came in but it has out grown all others from this shipment by 3-4x.

Crystal yangmei on Rubra. Gets a little shade around 5pm, seems to love it where it is.

Growing corn around some of my full sun exposed yangmei, at least while theyre still young. Read about a yangmei grower in China that does this and sounds like a good idea, not sure its needed though. These plants are about 3-4 years old, 2+ in the ground.

Nice pics!  Yes that was me. It looks like Columbia Star. That is a delicious blackberry. We need some pics of the Yangmei.

Bill

OK, Ill post some on a new thread....

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB Keitt Mango Scions
« on: June 27, 2024, 11:31:08 PM »
I have a large tree Im top working over to Keitt. Can't seems to find scions in the typical places. Anyone have any they are willing to sell?

If you’re top working an entire tree, have you considered other varieties as well? You could make a multigrafted tree with one tree having different mango varieties.

yes, this tree will have Sweet tart and Keitt. I have a bunch of other varieties in the ground so Ill just stick with these two varieties on the tree Im top working.
