Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Looking for Pineapple guava trees
« on: December 18, 2024, 11:12:52 AM »
If you willing to graft check out https://fruitwoodnursery.com/pineapple-guava-cutting-and-scion-wood-feijoa-sellowiana. Their rootstocks are good size and from seeds of good cultivars. I recommend Marta from https://reallygoodplants.com/ for scions as well.

Psidium guajava var Pulpa Verde $15 each 2 are available, buy both for $25, seed was obtained from Helton in Brazil. From what I can translate he says he obtained the seed to his mother plant from the USA but I personally haven’t seen pictures of a green skin and pulp Guava like this here. He said it has semi dwarf growth structure and has sweet fruits.

Butia paraguayensis "Dwarf Yatay Palm" in a 3x9 in deep tree pot, the polyembryonic with 2 plants in it is $29 [sold] and the other taller single seedling is $20. I can ship them in a medium flat rate Priority box for $16 to West Coast. USPS Ground is also an option to anywhere above freezing.

Byrsonima sp Cerrado from Bellamy Trees in a one gallon pot $12

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Looking for Eugenias in SWFL
« on: October 19, 2024, 05:19:33 PM »
Hi!

I am in SWFL and am looking for some less common Eugenia species, such as Savannah Cherry, Rainforest Plum, and Patrisii (or any other interesting ones). I already have grumichamas and black Surinam cherries, but can’t find any others locally at nurseries. If anyone has any, I’d be interested. More interested in buying from someone local in person than having them shipped, as I would love to connect with other local Eugenia enthusiasts :)

I recommend checking out Anderson Tropicals https://andersontropicals.com/collections/all-seeds?page=2

Steve Anderson also sells plants through eBay and pretty sure he lives close to you.

what are some extreme dwarf plants that make a good fruit? size taste and precocious is always a + too

i currently have annona warmigiana on my radar

There are some Psidium species that are low creepers like P. salutare var mucronatum and some found in the Cerrado like P. Australe var suffruticosum, many Myrciaria species found in the Cerrado are very small plants.

These aren’t extremely dwarf but certainly dwarf such as Eugenia sellowiana, E.  calycina, E. punicifolia, E. pitanga, several Campomanesia Cerrado species like C. adamantium and C. pubescens, and a few Myrcia Cerrado.

The Eugenia sellowiana has good size fruits on a small plant. The branches bend with the load. I’m looking forward to tasting the fruit of this species.

This is what I would do if I need to ship this Pitanga. These are pictures of when I shipped a Eugenia pisiformis in a 5 gallon pot recently.

That's pretty funny. Never received a tree in wood frame before.

Yeah I tend to go overkill on protection and tape. I will have to with this Pitanga as it’s 43lbs just the plant and 10 gallon pot. Most sellers would be pickup only with a plant this size.

Those myrcia looks very pretty.
I always misread myrcia and myrciaria lol

Yeah it’s easy to get the 2 genera confused. Myrcia is one of my favorite genera to grow but with the limited space here I need to focus on the dwarf types. The leaves of these M. strigipes will get huge and very ornamental.

Auctions end tonight. Have a great Sunday.

I found out by putting in different measurements that I can save the buyer around $15 by reducing the box height only 3” to make it 45”.
The first 2 pics are to CA showing the difference and the last 2 is to around Tampa FL. To see the exact shipping charge to you go check the rate at pirateship.com from zip code 27295 15x15x45 at 50lbs. If the buyer wants the plant sent semi bareroot I might be about to reduce the shipping cost some more to where it’s around 20lbs and a wood cage wouldn’t be necessary. Might be able to reduce the height too with bareroot. I will need to ship it exactly 3 weeks from now due to medical treatments so the weather should be cooler across the country, perfect for shipping UPS Ground. I also won’t charge the $15 handling if shipped bareroot as I would keep the grow bag and won’t need to buy and build a wood cage.

I recently trimmed it some to where it should fit in the box with very minimal trimming. Most of the branches are flexible. Also reduced the price to $140.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: ISO Tiny Guava Tree
« on: September 13, 2024, 10:25:36 AM »

I wish I had an extra plant for you of this Psidium salutare var mucronatum. It’s a low creeper type of Guava native to the grasslands and even up to around 1,000M altitude mountains in southern Brazil and into Argentina. I would recommend messaging Kameron Bellamy of Bellamy Tree’s, decent chance he might have one available. Also recently he has brought in several creeping Guava species  from the Cerrado region of Brazil that stays very short.

Hey fellow rare fruit growers,

Up for auction is a lot of 2 Myrcia strigipes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/186680454851?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zGee3RFfQ0-&sssrc=2524149&ssuid=zGee3RFfQ0-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

This is known to have a very tasty fruit that many say is better than Jaboticaba. Also has very ornamental large leaves.

Then I also have a Cerrado combo box auction with 2 pots of Manilkara rufula and 2 pots of Guettarda viburnoides seedlings. Ornamental plants that are reported to have good tasting fruits.

Thanks and have a great day,

David

Those are beauties, eh!

How similar is that to c. sessilis?

Sending well wishes your way Giant Gecko!!!

Thank you very much. Some will call it a dwarf C. sessilis and is very similar. It’s much smaller in height with smaller fruit that are brown. I’m assuming they were fully ripe though when brown in the pictures. To me it looks very similar to C. humilis. https://www.colecionandofrutas.com.br/cordieriahumilis.htm

Last day, auctions ends tonight. Check out the awesome new growth of this species in the first pic. Have a great Sunday.

Hey TFF,  I have available this Eugenia uniflora var Dwarf Orange in a 10g Root Trapper fabric grow bag for $140.It’s Sellami ‘s favorite Pitanga, he says it has citrus flavors with no astringency or bad aftertaste.  It’s ready to go into a bigger pot or in the ground. It had 4 flowers this year but no fruit set so probably next year. Seed was obtained from Sellami and the other growers that bought seeds  from him the fruit are true to seed having bright orange fruits. The is also a small branch of Marta’s Guaruja Red Pitanga that I grafted on in the Spring.I much prefer pick up because of its size to build a reinforcement to protect it and shipping cost. If someone must have it shipped it’s not going to be cheap. The biggest box I have available in the picture is 15x15x48. Shipping for this box size rate from Pirateship UPS Ground 50lbs from NC to FL is around $55 and NC to CA is $95. Plus additional $15 handling to cover box and 1x2 wood that is needed. Any ? please ask and have a great day.

Shipping for this box size rate from Pirateship UPS Ground 30lbs from NC to FL is $50 and NC to CA is $90. I can get a larger wardrobe box 21x18x46 for $18 extra to buy it where just a light pruning to fit, plus $20 shipping and handling to cover cost and time to build a wood support to protect it and UPS shipping is NC to FL is $65 and NC to CA is around $110. Any ? please ask and have a great day.

Cool plants-

wishing you a speedy recovery

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words.

Hey TFF,

Due to an ongoing health issue I’m going to be reducing my collection by half by first frost here in NC around late October. These Cordiera sp Marmelo Anao are an awesome dwarf spreading bush of the Cerrado in Brazil.  Juliano, who found them in Brazil, said the fruits are very tasty like a sweet potato desert. I had one out of 6 flower this year and it flowered in groups of 3 which indicates more than likely it’s a male. Females typically have solitary flowers. I was hoping to keep a pair and spread around pairs to others but plants work on their time schedules. All of these plants should flower next year. There are 2 auctions, both auctions come with 2 plants of the same age. Any questions please ask. Thanks and have a great day. https://www.ebay.com/itm/186644445568
