I have other citrus trees that will hold fruit until the next crop is ripe, but they are almost always a dry husk of their former glory by that point. Valencias are the exception.

IIRC it's 20:1 for mango, Ca:K

The slope should be excellent, they seem not to mind the heavy soil as long as there is no standing water.

They do get huge on their own and produce excellent nuts, but their main limiting factors are Rodent predation and excess nutrient load on the soil.

If you plant away from power lines and fences, and put an apron on the tree you can stop the rodents from eating the nuts in the canopy, and if you plant in the most nutrient deprived portion of the area you can potentially avoid the second issue.

There are types with wavy, spiky leaves and ones with smooth bordered leaves (often referred to as 'Hawaiian types')

I don't know if there is such a thing as an overloaded white sapote tree.

They seem to not understand the meaning of such logic.

Another option that caught my attention is Imam Pasand or Alampur Baneshan because of the flavor profile. It sounds similar in taste to Ice Cream, but with possibly better production and disease resistance? From my reading opinions seem split on the flavor. Another one I need to taste!

The variety that we have here fulfilling the role for both is a splitter, so you may be better off planting White Pirie.

I think it's likely Chloride, which Mangoes can tolerate, but make sure to not let it dry out too much or overapply.

They also prefer a high Calcium to Potassium ratio, so if you do apply the powder, make sure to apply significantly more Calcium.

I'm a fan, Keitt is an impressive fruit.

The color of the flesh was yellow, with a slightly mushy texture. The mangos lightened from a dark green to a lighter green, but never showed any color except for a little yellow on the shoulders. The flavor was hard to describe, but I didn’t taste much, if any, coconut. It didn’t ripen evenly.

That's Sugarloaf. Being so coastal, you will get many more fruit than those who grow it inland. Give the tree a few years to establish before judging the fruit.

Is there anywhere in Socal that I can buy a Coconut Cream, Fruit Punch, or a Miyazaki mango to try? I don't want to spend $130 for essentially 2-3 mangoes from florida.

No.

But I can tell you to ignore Irwin, it's no good.

If you have the space, plant them out, and the worst that happens is you end up top working the tree.

At the stage they are at, you can crush the leaves and smell them to eliminate off-types, but no sure thing for selecting a clone, enhanced probability, yes.


FWIW I planted a few OS seeds last year, and most had identical sap smells when crushed at that stage, there were 2 obvious off types, which I mark and separate.

Then Pierce is the best, it has the Guanabana flavor in good years.
