My 4 year old Harvest Moon produced 4 fruit this year. One was inedible due to some rot around the stem. Of the remaining 3 one was smaller in size and the other two were jumbo. One of the jumbos I picked too early and it never ripened properly. You don’t pick these at the first sign of yellow. I picked this one full yellow on the tree and it still had to ripen off the tree for another week. I live in the north Redlands, well inland and the fruit remained quite clean of any fungus with no treatments.
I didn’t weigh it but I guess it was around 3 pounds. It’s pictured next to a Carrie for comparison. I can put down 4 Carrie size fruits for breakfast but it was a stretch to finish this Harvest Moon.
I would call the flavor very good but not great. Not much fiber, no internal breakdown. Uniform flavor and texture throughout. To large to cut up tic tac toe style. The novelty is the size.
My tree is not a vigorous grower like the peach cobbler by any means. It’s an average size tree but the stems grow very thick.
