Kiwi - Jenny Variety
« on: April 22, 2023, 07:32:43 AM »
Has anyone had success with growing the jenny kiwi variety in the southeastern U.S.?  It is purported to not need a male pollinator.

If it truly needs only 100-200 hours, this will be an amazing variety.

I planted one 10 years ago in the southwest of Germany, Zone 7 and it grew very well. BUT: the fruit were much to small, little smaller than walnut. So I decided to regraft it with the Hayward variety and organized a male partner for it.
Now (third year with the new graft) the fruit are already as big as Jenny's were at harvest time. I recommend to plant Male and female. The male also seems to grow weaker and hence takes less space as the female.

Jenny fuzzy kiwi is self fertile no male pollinator required to fruit. however, as others have mention the fruits will be smaller (half size) than standard market size. you can see the size of the fruit here. https://youtube.com/shorts/in3KrMP9yeo
