This post is for those of you who purchased the Sylvia (old name Betty) guava cuttings. color

Anyone else, please do not post here, make your own post.

 ===================================================
Ok, I shipped the last Betty/Sylvia guava cuttings to all of those people who paid for them. Today I will send out a few more because I didn't have it properly recorded, just read all my message from Feb 26 - March14.

I will post the list here until Friday so if you don't see your name on it and I missed you, please send me a reminder message, not posting it here. I will be able to see your message easier and I can communicate easier one-one in the message.

For this weeks last shipment (yesterday and today), all the cuttings were from my visit to the tree on Tuesday (3/12).

For some of you that didn't get the Free seeds (qty=5) I planned to give, you can let me know next week if you still want the seeds, just pay for the envelop/padded to ship it to you. I checked all the fruits I cut open and I will have enough seeds for everyone to get 5 seeds. Only a few people have the seeds in their package I sent out, the rest of you will need to wait until starting next Tuesday if you pay for the mailing cost. If your state does not allow shipping of guava seeds, then you need to let me know.

=> if I missed your order, you can always tell me to cancel it, and I will refund your payment.

Ok, still didn't get around to make the table of people who got the cuttings and seeds.

I'll update sometime later tonight. You will have until next Friday to let me know if I missed you. No new orders taken after 3/15.

I did take another brix reading today on the Sylvia ripe fruits. This time I took 3 fruits and mixed them up and got the reading.

The last time I did a reading it was brix=11. Today with the three fruits, the brix =21 so much higher than before.

That is pretty impressive when you compare it to the other guava varieties brix's reading.

Here's the old photo of the earlier readings, and some fruit photo.

A few members said the fruit shape and color looks similar to the Chinese Carmine guava. But I think the Sylvia guava is larger at 243 grams. So I hope all of you get the cuttings to root or graft well.

Yes Danielle, you gave me a good idea to leave this post open to record everyone's progress until they have success with their rooted cuttings or grafted tree. You gave me inspiration for the special offer below.

I can leave this other info (photos with text) on the Sylvia guava here for future reference, hopefully of information on how to successfully root guavas.

======================

For all my archived photos, see the post below. For those of you who purchased the guava cuttings, feel free to use my photos that I'm sharing with you.

Kaz,

Do you think the pearl guava and Florida red were at peak ripeness?  The skin on both pearl and Florida red look green in the photos.  I've heard good reviews on the Pearl so wondering if maybe the ones you tried weren't representative of its true potential.  Also, the tropic pink in your photo is white flesh, is that mislabeled?

Anyways, your Sylvia guava looks good, will be interested to see how it compares to JF's guava varieties.

I sent out the tracking info to all that purchased the cuttings so look at your message from me.

I will compile the table later (taking longer than I expected to go through every message from 2/26) since the system does not sort the "sent message" column so I need to open every message that was sent to me from the start date.

If you paid for the Sylvia cuttings and I did not confirm that I sent your package then please message me, don't post it here.

For those of you that purchased the Sylvia guava, if you want the 5 free seeds, I got them ready now.

You will need to pay for the shipping cost $10 in padded envelop seems to be best for the seeds.
Send me a message by next Wednesday to get these seeds, I should have enough for everyone.

Some of you did get the seeds with your cuttings so you can not get it again.

Thanks for the scions, Kaz.

I have one I’m trying to root, the rest are all grafted with a few methods, so hopefully something succeeds!

This one, the bark was slipping so I made a bark graft.

ok, glad to hear they looked good for you guys. Hope it takes.

I also hope my grafts will take and grow so I can get some fruits to taste in a few years. I didn't have enough guava tree rootstock to use so I had to buy more just for this Sylvia guava.

Here's a few more photos for your records, you might want to copy the image so you have a copy of it in the future. You can use any of my photos I post of the Sylvia guava as long as you use the proper name that is assigned to it. The name is for the tree owner's wife.

If anyone who paid for cuttings did not get it, you should message me now.
I will not be sending out any more Sylvia (Betty) guava cuttings or seeds if I don't hear from you.

This post will be left open so everyone can continue to give their update on the rooted cuttings or graft and we can share our experience on what method works best.

========================================================
  => Special Ofer <=

I plan to root a lot of cuttings that I had left from the last tree trmming and hope that some cuttings will root.

Please let us know your method if it works so others can learn from ths experience. I will try to help out where I can, and if you didn't get success at all by the end of summer, maybe if I do have many extras that are successful, I might sell you a rooted cutting by Christmas time. Only those who purchased the Sylvia cuttings will have the opportunity to buy any extras I get rooted. No new requests to buy rooted cuttings by others who did not purchase the intial cuttings from me.

So I will publish the list of all who have purchased the cuttings and you will be the potentially lucky one to buy one if you can't get it to root or graft to take before Christmas time. I would like to see everyone who purchased the Sylvia guava cuttings to have one growing.

I will only sell any extra rooted cuttings I might have to only those who participate and post their progress here. If I don't see any comments or feedback from you on your progress, then don't ask to buy my rooted cuttings (if I can get it to grow). So, for anyone who is successful in a few months to get one to root, you can help the rest of us by telling us about your best practice for rooting and that will give everyone else a chance to buy any successful rooted cutting I may have.
========================================================

As for the cost to buy this excellent rooted guava, I will need to determine a fair price. Any profit for the sale of the rooted Sylvia guava cuttings will be given back to the tree owner. But my goal is to spead this variety to our TFF members so you lucky ones can share cuttings of Sylvia in the coming years to the rest of the members.

Thanks Kaz, received the package. Got here quick—Will try some cleft grafts and some bud grafts. Maybe even try to root a small piece of cutting. If any of those take, I will be one of the happiest tropical fruit gardeners in March! 😉😁

Sounds good. I'm also going to try rooting some cuttings, if it works then I should have some extras by the end of the year. I'm just hoping my grafts will be good so I can get some fruits in a few years.

How did it start as Betty out of curiosity?

i arbitrary give it that name of Betty, then after talking with the home owner, we decided it would be nice to name it after his wife Syliva, so that is what happened. In the beginning he didn't want to give it a name and just asked me to name it but changed his mind later.

I haven’t had much success at rooting guava cuttings. I have better luck at air layering, but seeing how you need to have a tree first before you can air layer it, this situation makes me more determined to get a take, from cuttings or grafts...I see a pretty bright future for this new and upcoming guava variety. Kaz, thanks for sharing!

That’s nice of him to want to name it after his wife. It reminds of Dr. Campbell naming the mango variety Cecilove, supposedly from what he likes to call his wife heheh...

yup, well I did have to give him the idea for the name. Afterwards he was happy about it since his wife really like the idea. He told me it was his wife that likes to eat the guava fruits.
