Test Paskistan Black Mulberry grow in Cleveland Zone 6
« on: September 23, 2024, 03:35:51 PM »
My sister in law took a Pakistan mulberry from my house (Southern CA)

And she Planted it in her front yard (Ohio Cleveland) Zone 6

Let see if this tree can survive after winter or not.

I knew the Pakistan is not cold hardy but the rootstock is wild mulberry.

I told her to doing some protection during this upcoming winter, hopefully it stay safe after that.

Last year she planted 2 fruitless mulberry tree from the cutting but all died.

I had one that survived two winters ago when temperatures dropped below zero in the Dayton area. It was under a lump of compost and mulch. Even the top survived.

I moved the tree to WV last winter sans compost, still zone 6B, and it attempted to wake. But the deer ate all new growth to the point that it did not survive.

I'd be willing to bet that they will make it in the right spot.

Hopefully, there are a lot of deer around this area.

I've got a new to me tree in Dayton and the deer have come up from the creek and exclusively nibbled the pakistan mulberry's leaves, even with ripe berry crops and ripe grapes feet away. It's looking very lollipopped but still alive.

Be prepared to protect your investment, lol!
