Seedless Kumquats Nagami x Meiwa
« on: October 27, 2024, 04:55:53 AM »
There are three seedless kumquat hybrids. Nameiwa, Nameiwa #1 and Puchimaru, that are derived from a cross between Nagami and Meiwa. How do those compare?

I know about Dr. Brown's Nameiwas that one of them is called "Nameiwa #1" aka "10 Degree kumquat" and the other is "Seedless Nameiwa".  He had other Nameiwas, but they either have not been preserved or are not widespread. From the names of these two kumquats, it is clear that one is characterized by frost resistance, and the other by the absence of seeds. I've heard about Puchimaru, but I can't say anything definite.

you could create your own nameiwa 😋 and since I've seen the meiwa bloom quickly, you could see the results in a short time. My hybrids don't bloom yet, but I already have a few. I also have backcrosses of calamondin, orangequat, mandarinquat and limequat with meiwa and Nagami. maybe something spectacular is brewing.

But for seedlessness one parent has to be tetraploid.
