I知 also worried I killed my avocado tree

Hi everybody. I planted this tree a few weeks ago. It was out in full sun, so I wasn稚 worried about the heat and picked a sunny spot. All the leaves above the graft turned brown and crunchy. The lower leaves, as you can see, are very happy. Any advice please?! Thank you.

So it looks like it's growing from the rootstock so don't expect the variety that you planted.

Yeah, what John said looks to be the case (probably had some issue at the graft union, take a close look there). I'd leave it to grow and graft what you want onto it in a season or two.

I waited at least 2 years or more before I planted my avocado trees keeping them in Mostly shade.
Way too hot here to plant trees.  Too hard for them to root.

Learned the hard way since I lost so many. 
Wait now until the bark is brown before planting.
Then plant high up as on a mound with only compost & alfalfa meal for fertilizer.
