Is this Atemoya or cherimoya?

Went to 168 market the other day and purchased what they had labeled as Cherimoya but to me it looks atemoya due to the small spikes. The flesh closest to the inner skin wall was grainy. Overall the fruit was guddddddd!

It's a cherimoya, Playa. Atemoya has mutant looking skin especially the African pride. Cherimoya has flat and symmetrical skin and bumps.

I didn't know that was an easy way to tell them apart.  What do you mean by "mutant looking?"  Rough, as opposed to smooth?

It's a cherimoya, there are 5 major physiological expressions, this one is mammillata type.


Atemoyas can vary quite a bit in appearance, so it's difficult to make generalizations about identity based on appearance.

Cherimoyas tend towards much more regular appearance.
