Tropical Fruit Discussion / Canít be a Duncan, right?
« on: July 22, 2021, 02:31:23 PM »
I bought this tree a couple of years ago. It was supposed to be a Duncan but this fruit doesnít resemble one. Plus the skin is edible. Itís a delicious fruit but itís too strong for my kids, could it be a Julie? Orange flesh and fiberless.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jackfruit tasting
« on: July 20, 2021, 04:03:46 PM »
This is a seedling jackfruit tree, not sure of the age, it was removed from my friends house when he moved. Lots of flowers but only a handful of fruit this year. Itís a slow growing tree. Itís soft flesh, but the flavor is very sweet and intense, this one in particular even had a kerosene aftertaste. My wife canít eat jackfruit because of latex, but she can eat this jackfruit. Itís easy peel and a good amount of rag is sweet and edible. Seeds are the size of grapes but some are the size of peas. Fruit average 10 pounds.

« on: May 21, 2021, 08:55:30 AM »

If you have kids they would love these bananas, they are good for adults too. A friend introduced these to me and itís a really good banana fruit and tree. Bunches can get twice as big but this was fruited in the winter.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango ID
« on: May 04, 2021, 11:47:39 AM »

It was labeled as a Maha Chanok. The tree is quite large now and itís the first year really holding fruit. Last year it flowered and held two fruit but both dropped. Iím not sure of the shape of those drops but I recall them being more elongated. I am asking for help identifying this mango, and is it comparable in taste and quality to a Mahachanok. Thank you very much!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Worms eating lychee flowers
« on: March 19, 2021, 09:41:28 AM »
Any idea what these worms are. They are eating the lychee blossoms and baby fruit. The are about 1/4 inch long. They usually  wrap themselves in dried blooms and some webbing. Sometimes I see them openly crawl about eating the blooms. Thank you and much appreciated!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Tommy hass
« on: June 16, 2020, 09:34:26 AM »
Hereís an update of a seedling hass my father planted. The top was cut off to control the height but itís still pushing 15ft tall. It was knocked over by a hurricane a couple of years ago but I think that actually did it a favor, because it really took off after that. Itís loaded with fruit and I donít see another avocado tree in the neighborhood so maybe itís self fertile somewhat. Itís a good creamy fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian
« on: January 20, 2020, 03:16:32 PM »

Just a heads up if there are durian lovers in west palm beach. There is a grocery store on 45th st. Called foodtown that received a good shipment of durian.  These are about the tenth one Iíve eaten and all have been odorous and delicious. They also have rambutan there as well.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mountain sop?
« on: September 05, 2019, 04:17:13 PM »
After the hurricane while golf carting around the neighborhood we came upon a bunch of these. They look like mountain sop. The trees were in a forested area so they are never maintained. They have a faint sweetness, and flowery scent. Donít taste as good as sugar apples but fun to eat.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Sweetheart lychee trees for trade
« on: August 22, 2019, 04:13:15 PM »
I have some air layered sweetheart lychee trees. They have been potted for two weeks now. I have about a dozen of them but Iím only going to keep 4.  Since Iím going to buy more fruit trees in the coming months I thought why not try trading 8 of these for other fruit trees, Iím really interested in the new mango varieties but if you have something you donít want let me know. Thanks. Local pickup

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Hass avocado in florida
« on: August 18, 2019, 09:35:04 PM »
My father planted this seedling hass about 8 years  ago, it fruited in two years. Then work forced a move for a few years and it was neglected and blown over by a hurricane. I came back this year and started to take care of it again. Then the chickens started to stay under it and coupled with the watering and chicken waste it really sprung to life. It taste just like a store hass avocado but with some sweetness. Thanks for reading.
