Pink crystal guava
« on: May 19, 2022, 12:19:14 AM »
Hello, does anyone know if these pink crystal guava from Indonesia are any good? I ordered four from eBay. They won’t be here for a couple of weeks.

Thanks

I'm sure nobody here has purchased from that seller so you'll have to let us know (and the name is likely something he made up or translated from another language), but the colors remind me of a guava I bought from TopTropicals years ago that they called "Sweet Kiss". It ripens light green on the outside and red on the inside, is nearly seedless though not entirely, is pretty small, and is really delicious. I like it even better than Ruby Supreme; its flavor is similar to RS but with more of a berry flavor.

Anyway, if you ever get fruit out of it, you should post here and let us know what it's like.

My red seedless crystal keeps dropping flowers.  I will water more just to see and taste the first fruit.  Mine is from Indonesia as well.

Any update if this tree is worth growing? Is this the same as Taiwan ruby seedless guava?

The plants made it. It took a week to ship and about a week to arrive from Indonesia. I'll report on what the fruit is like in a couple of years... haha.

Are these grafted? Is it better off buying air layered instead of grafted guavas?

For guava, grafted trees always produce better than air-layered ones.  Tap roots do wonders.

Not sure, only thing I know about these is what’s in the eBay description.

Does it have round leaves?

Here is a ruby seedless guava plant on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1024126092/

I had a seedless guava tree with round, thick leaves. Good looking tree, large beautiful buds/flowers. Every single one dropped. Never gave me any fruit either. Had it for 3 years.

When you say round, is it more of oval shaped or actually round?

Well…..I guess they weren’t technically wrong about the seedless thing then. Perhaps fruitless would be more honest.

Does it look like this?

Grafted tree to a mature rootstock will grow so much faster than airlayer unless you airlayer a huge branch with full of roots. All my grafted tree always dwarf my friends seedless guava that purchased for $200-500 in 7-15 gallon after a year.
