Black spot on super alphonso tree- help identify
« on: October 07, 2025, 02:06:36 PM »
I planted this 25 gal tree about 2 months ago. I did not notice this mark when I got it, but I can't be certain. The area appears diseased, or possibly something hit it. The bamboo stake is a few inches away so I don't think it was that. Any idea what this is and how to treat it or how serious of a problem it is? Thank you

Looks like wound from abrasion or cut, mango wounds are light and bleed sap then turn black when inner bark is exposed to air. It should heal fine, I've hit trees with mowers and 4x4's before and they've recovered no problem

Also, despite its Zill-80 genetics, SA is generally known to have solid MBBS resistance.

I'd remove stake.  Getting late in season to trim but is it that tall to need stake?
Not a fan of stakes, i learned after damaged orange sherbet & fruit cocktail which died.
My thoughts.
