Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Kampong avocado pear shaped?

Kampong is not.
I agree. Can you slice a fruit  leave the seed in it and take a picture.

On a brighter note, most trees with ripening fruit at this time of the year in Florida, are really good. Many seedlings of Waldin around with excellent tasting fruit. Your profile mentions you are at 2700' elevation. That fruit may need more time. It can also be a Hall seedling.

There are definitely ready now. Season is October to unk. I will pay more attention this year.
Does not bear consistent every year. But for a homeowner is fine you are going to have really good fruit for two months. Really how many can you eat.
Is not a small tree. I have it growing between two Monroes so is king of box-in. Will get another tree going at a better location.
No I have not tried the improved Pollock

Wow I thought the season for Kampong was later.  I will definitely want to try some this year, have never gotten the chance.
Julie, I have found out that the length of time a fruit hangs in the tree is not necessarily related to fruit quality. Some fruit can hang on the tree while quality deteriorates.

Picked around October 10. This year they are spectacularly clean. The flavor 10++++. For those who value creaminess, AAA. Just clean tasting avocado,
Lacks the Catalina, Nishikawa and to some extend Oro Negro boiled egg taste that I don't like.   Delight on avocado toast or as side dish.  May be climate change is going to benefit some old varieties.
I wonder why this is not in every nursery in Florida, instead of the latest hype. On the late season spectrum this beats Monroe, Choquette, Lula, Hall. Not sure about the cold hardiness but has a lot of Guatemalan in it.

Thanks. I dont think the fruit will stay on the tree past early December size wise they seem in the 8-11 oz. I will pick every 15 days to see if they ripen before they drop

Beautifull property. Lots of possibilities. I which I could send you water we have plenty in Florida and it causes problems in the growing process. Your husband is correct. A grove is a lifetime process.

The release from UF is a red type I'm going to try to get hold of some fruit.

I grew it a few years ago and eventually cut it down. The fruit ripened rather early, very prolific, but flavor was bland. I felt we have better fruit from other varieties at that time.

The trees I got them from are supposed to be Thai Lessard. These were some of the first fruit set of the season. They were amazing, I take these over any atemoya I have tasted so far.

Hello Carlos, yes its easy to make.  You can puree the fruit then spread it thin on glass and dry it out.  Keep smooshing it around and respreading it when drying it until is all brown and dry.  Then put it in a cheese cloth and squeeze out the oil.
Do you do it indoors or in sun?

Monroe is not the best B flower to pollinate Dupuis because flowers a few weeks later. Although weather has been crazy, and anything is possible.

Is all a matter of taste. Dupuis and Simond both are excellent. Dupuis a bit early For the fall a good Waldin is really good and stays relatively clean. The downside
the large seed. I'm testing a new cultivar, Denise. Ripens in September extremely creamy, let's see how well it is this year to confirm production. A 25oz fruit with small seed.   Pollock is good but production is poor, especially since we are in this warming trend, very susceptible to Laurel Wilt.

I have a few PPC grafted early this year. The ones grafted on Cherimoya not doing so well. The ones in sugar apple (squamosa) doing much better. I have one in the ground, plant another next week and top worked a sugar apple at home.  Just looking at them they don't seem to like the heat.  I wonder if anyone has fruited them in Miami-Dade?

A late season Dupuis, there are some in DR, a lot of importers avoid it because it does not travel well or stores well in cold temps. At some point they stop growing and you get a lot of small fruit.
