I pretty much do. Definitely noticed a decline in the amount I have, but they're not gone. I actually enjoy wandering the yard at night with a headlamp on😋

For the Sri Lankan Weevils, I walk around at night with a headlamp on and hand pick the weevils off leaves and drop them in a cup filled with soapy water. As mentioned, while they chomp on mango leaves, they tend to prefer other leaves (here it's been bauhinia, Silk Floss Trees, and Fried Egg Trees, followed by Barbados Cherry and now Canistel).

This is delish. I like it not fully thawed out. It's like a Durian Popsicle

I still haven't sprayed my Powdery Mildew blooms with water, but we did get a couple intense rains recently. The PM remains, though. Hoping the newer blooms on the Pickering Seedling are able to fruit. The actual Pickerings in the yard are holding fruit in spite of PM. Ice Cream had full bloom and looks like it will hold onto nothing. Hopefully it will hold onto whatever grafts I put on it this upcoming summer to make that thing productive. Sugarloaf is hanging onto fruit in spite of PM, though not many fruitlets look clean.

The star of the show here is my Coconut Cream Seedling. No PM, some staggered blooms (some might say multiple crops?), and excellent fruit set.

Just had my first Australian Green. Indeed they are sweet! Kaz, this is on a cutting I got from you that I cleft grafted onto Thai Dwarf. Also have Black Pakistan and Red Himalayan fruiting on tree, also your cuttings. Many thanks!

MarktLee, how did you find the taste of these? Any characteristics (either good or bad) stand out about these particular fruits? Thanks!

HA! I actually assumed garden hose, but imagined a blast would knock flowers off. Thanks!

fruitnoob, can you explain in more detail the water hose method? There still may be time to try it here😄

Wow, pineislander, your property looks lush and amazing!

We harvested our winter crop of a singular Nam Doc Mai #4 on Feb 23, but should have waited just a little longer before consuming.

We're noticing powdery mildew on some Pickering Blooms, but there's still been good fruit set.

My Pickering Seedling also has some PM on its blooms. I won't spray anything on these trees--want to test the disease resistance of the seedling tree.

My Coconut Cream Seedling is doing great--a lot of blooms and no sign of PM. Hoping it holds enough fruit to get other people's opinions on taste of the fruit, including yours and shot's, if interested in trying.

Thanks, Ognin525! I'll have to bury the tip in an elevated pot, as the branch is too high up to reach the ground. Will keep you posted!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: When is best to plant out my mango?
« on: February 21, 2024, 07:48:54 AM »
I just planted out an Olosapo, a couple Brazilian Rain Trees, a couple Lemon Cattley Guavas, a Sea Grape, a Cocoplum, a Sparkleberry, and a 1gal Tong Dam Mango. My goal was to plant these before the rains came Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday, and I achieved said goal.

I have no plans of watering any of these, especially considering we may get more rain late Friday.

Removing stakes around certain in-ground plants revealed the ground here is still wet even before this past weekend's rain.

I'm not sure what the situation is in the Tampa area, but if it's similar to Charlotte County, you could probably get away without watering, and benefit from the upcoming rains.

It has been chilly, and I've mulched generously with grass clippings around the new plantings to hopefully keep their toes warm till the temps rise.

Not sure this helps, but this is what I'm doing, and it's what I've done in the past with positive results.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the info, Ognin525! So the end tip of the "stalk" should be buried? To have it make more plants? If so, I'm all in favor of that! There was one other fruit that developed later, and something got to it before me--I'm thinking the chickens, but they're not talking . . .

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Advice on Red Mulberry pruning
« on: February 20, 2024, 05:09:28 PM »
I've heard a Peach Tree should be pruned so a bird can fly through it, but never heard a Mulberry Tree should be pruned to allow a cat to be thrown through it. I will take out some interior limbs during next year's pruning, but will hold off on throwing Smudge through the tree😹

I was just wondering today how well they can be transplanted? Threw some seeds in the yard after eating one, and discovered a seedling right up against a Walter's Viburnum. I guess it's worth trying to move, as it can't grow there anyway??

Was wandering around after dark with my headlamp on and saw a bunch of moths(?) on the panicles of my Coconut Cream Seedling. Problem is, the tree doesn't glow in the dark as far as I can tell, yet it still had what are hopefully pollinators working after hours? Here's the best pic I got:

Chris34145, have you had Haden mangos before? Many think it's not as impressive as the newer mangos. I'm not one of them. It's one of my favorites, and I found space in my yard for a tree last year. Hoping yours impresses this season!

Epicatt2, I only have one and it's been in the ground less than 24hrs😂 it really did well in the pot. I just hope it's as happy in the ground.

Sir Graftalot, this is my first and only Olosapo, and I've only had it since July, so I can't speak to managing it. At least not yet!
