Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / ISO Lemon cuttings
« on: March 23, 2021, 10:44:31 AM »
Just looking for any old lemon cuttings off of fruiting trees to root. Wanting to do something nice as a few gifts for people and just donít have the capacity to take lemon cuttings from my tree yet. I do have quite a bit to trade:

Cuttings from -

Fukushu kumquat
Nordmann seedless
Australian Blood Lime
Murcott mandarin
Regular green finger lime

I have very few and could spare some from:

Red Finger lime
Rangpur lime
Variegated Navel Orange (-cara cara aka Tiger Navel)

Or I am willing to buy cuttings outright. Shipping from Wisconsin.

Sorry itís been a while since Iíve been online lol, Iím getting ready to trim mine back if anyone is interested in cuttings. Itís roughly a 2 year old plant from seed.. no fruit yet but perhaps someone can get the cuttings to root.

Iím going to give it a little boost of light here soon and try to induce fruiting this spring.

Out of stock now, but a place to watch:

I got mine from here and it was a very healthy plant. Again just still waiting on fruit.

As the title suggests! I will pay for scions or trade! I have lots of cool citrus cuttings I can take from such as finger limes, red finger, blood finger limes, variegated navel, murcott, various kumquats, bergamot orange, and more.

The dwarf pomegranate I have finally fruited and it was gross lol. I want something worth my while.

I also have Coffee plants I can trade. Pm me with any cutting opportunities!

Citrus General Discussion / Re: How to control thrips
« on: January 13, 2021, 07:51:42 AM »
Thus far, I have tried MANY things to get rid of thrips. Nothing seemed to work. Horticultural oil based sprays just seemed to bounce off of them.

I used a concentrated spinosad mix (Monterey Garden Insect Spray) once and it took care of the entire population within a few days. Note I did this on containers and moved them to an indoor location after spraying as spinosad is a biggggg killer of beneficials.

Thank you! I appreciate the info!

Interesting reads!

Apparently itís hardy to 15F, which is about the extent of my knowledge on it! Maybe someday it can go into the ground when I design something.

I just purchased the last the nursery had, Taichang Lemon which Iím told is a more rare variety? However, I am unable to find much info on them. Perhaps someone who owns/owned one can tell me a little more on them and how they do as container trees?

Citrus General Discussion / Wekiwa vs OroBlanco
« on: September 19, 2020, 10:07:31 PM »
Iím wondering which of these varieties I should buy? I am lacking a grapefruit/pomelo in my collection and seem to have narrowed to these. Of course I will be growing in containers, currently both available to me on dwarf/semi dwarf rootstock. Does anyone possibly own each tree, or can give me a comparative flavor profile? As well as if theyíre good containerized varieties or not.

Thanks to all!

Every seed that I planted from a variegated citrus as an experiment, sprouted albino and died, of course

I bet those seedlings at least looked cool before biting it.

I would not discourage anyone from germinating seeds from variegated citrus, just not to expect another healthy, variegated plant.

They did!! Like little ghosts haha.

I wonder, if germinating from a polyembryonic seed that was from a variegated plant, do you think that would come true or just end up albino as well?

Every seed that I planted from a variegated citrus as an experiment, sprouted albino and died, of course

I donít think variegated seeds usually come true.. typically you only get albino seedlings from variegated plants?

Just from my experience anyways. Citrus Variegation is only prolonged through grafting/propagation.

Iím not sure if itís legal to ship seed out of CA or not, but if it is (to Wisconsin which has no quarantine regulations), Iíd be more than happy to reimburse!

Looking to buy now for next years rootstock! Let me know if anyone has any.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB: Cocoa (chocolate) seeds?
« on: September 13, 2020, 12:09:00 AM »
I've gotten mine from Mauiseed Company and from Montoso Gardens. I paid a lot more for the ones from Montoso Gardens, but they sent me two whole pods which was about 80 seeds, and so far I've had 99% germination in three days. I had great luck with Mauiseeds, and definitely recommend it if you're looking for smaller quantities.

I just purchased a pod from Montoso! Thanks!

These guys have both, as rooted cuttings in stock! VERY good trees for the price! Iíve ordered hundreds of dollars of trees from these guys up to WI. They may have grafted trees but havenít gone through their stock.

I know I said before briteleaf, which I REALLY recommend their trees. Very good for what you pay! Otherwise the only other FL nursery I know of is Harris Citrus, which is also a very reputable nursery. I believe they are in the Orlando? area though but they ship.
