Some fruit will have a propensity to draw fruit flies more than others. Then even the tiniest bits of it with eggs in the garbage pail of your house, leads to flies.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is black gold soil good for miracle berries?

So I am trying to grow a miracle berry in a container, due to the fact I live in zone 6 and I have read that miracle berries need acidic soil. One of the ways I read on how to do this, was to use Canada sphagnum peat moss. The black gold is made up mostly of said item, but I've also read they add some things to make it less acidic. I'm wondering, is Black Gold a good choice for miracle berries? If not, what should I get instead?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Grafting onto large mango tree.

Thanks for the tips and sorry you lost the tree. Season before last season I chopped the top off since it didn't have any fruit. But once I did the heavy pruning it had about 30 really large ones last season. The were just a bit stringy and flowery tasting so I decided to go drastic. It is a really vigorous growing tree.
I went ahead and removed the bags since the grafts all had leaves anyway.
Hope it doesn't die like you said. Sounds like it could present a problem not making enough photosynthesis to support the root system.
Maybe I'll try the bark grafting with a pina colada scion when I get them. As far as the grafting tape I just ordered grafting tape lol, don't think it is parafilm since it does break easily. I'll have to get a roll and try it out.
Will keep updating as things progress keeping my fingers 🤞.
Thanks everyone for the great tips and interest in this type of project. Wish you all great luck with your plants!

Someone picked a papaya as we were talking & handed it to me.  My 1st & only papaya i've tried to this day.
I have no idea if it was ripe or ready, cut it open & stunk like old fuel oil!
Sealed it in ziplock & hoped garbage man wouldn't think it was flammable lol.
I work on cars, used stinky marine grease for props & this smelled worse.
Told my pops about it, he said there must've been an old rotted heating oil tank nearby.

Is this normal?  I'll stick with growing mangos, bananas & some citrus.

Ok good to hear more than a few people mentioning the Crystal seedless tastes good, I have a small graft on my tree. What is the Emperor guava and is it here in the USA?

I will need to visit Exotica and checkout the Diamond guava since I keep hearing he has many hard to find varieties. I did graft (but not sure if it will take yet) a white flesh guava that snowjunky said is a very sweet seedling plant called Steve's Super Sweet (SSS). This seedling was from Exotica.

Can a dragon fruit cutting be all used up?  What I mean is I have a fairly mature cutting that looks like itís had growth out of every single spine at one time or another thatís not sprouting any new growth.  Itís well rooted and healthy.  It initially put out two branches but they broke off due to dog but now it just looks super dormant for almost the whole growing season.

I found the best tasting guavas to be from Taiwan. Emperor and Crystal guava are elite selections and some of the best, if you can find a good air layer. Also Diamond guava from Exotica is very good.
