My pitomba is sad
« on: August 11, 2022, 06:38:21 PM »
I bought this from someone, shipped but sat in box for a week.  It seems to be getting a little worse. Leaves still soft but all curled.

Any advice?

Uh oh. When my pitombas do that it's usually game over. They are picky plants. I had a few that I split apart in pots in spring and none have bounced back. :(

Hope you have better luck than I did.

Beware whoever grew it may have been keeping it in heavier shade and more humidity like in a shade house. They tend to grow in flushes and only a few flushes each year. I have a few in the ground and they are variable, one has grown well but for me they have been slow. I got a few flowers on the largest one after 4 years but they failed.

Currently in the partial shade.  It was in pretty heavy shade to acclimate it from being in a box for 10 days.  I got it from Florida, so much higher humidity than southern California.  I have another Pitomba that I have had for 18 months and not sure it is grown a centimeter nor a single new leaf the entire time.

Lost as to the best route to take  :-\

Check the soil. It looks like it could be too wet.
Keep in shade and wait.
Don't overwater, just try to keep it humid

Think moving it indoors or grow lights would help it?
Definitely moist soil

I also would put the tree in full shade. I would water a couple times a week and
let it dry out in between waterings. If you over water it will get root rot.
Hopefully it pushes new growth and you can acclimate back in the sun
