Nice healthy jackfruit tree Alan!  That's a nice amount of fruit for the tree to hold.  Glad to see you pulling that off up in Tampa!

Abiu seeds you sent have had a high germination rate: 24/27 germinated.  They also arrived fresh.

Thanks!

Brad

I use bird scare tape.

Scarecrow in past but it didn’t seem to help as much as the scare tape.

Glad to hear Brian!

All packages have been mailed and arrival dates look to be Monday

I will be making my first shipments tomorrow morning.  Half of the seeds are spoken for at this point.

I have replied to PMs from those who PM'd me.

Thanks,

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: ONG Lychee Longan hybrid?

Is this the seedless lychee that is available in China and Australia?  Or is this a variety that Quang discovered on his own through growing seeds?

Kaimana and Sweetheart are early.

Emperor is late.

I have had decent luck using bird scare (reflective) tape.

Hi Clint,

Hope you’re doing well.  Thanks for posting the video!  My 6 foot tree flowered this year but dropped all of the flowers.

I’m looking forward to the follow up video.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fruit Tree Spacing (Advice/Resources)
« on: June 01, 2021, 03:31:03 PM »
I spaced all of my trees in my yard at approximately 15 feet apart.  I have jackfruit, lychee, avocado, Longan, etc.

That was 8 years ago.

I wish I had spaced them 20 feet apart.

Kaimana

By just seeing one fruit the shape looks like Kaimana. And also Kaimana is ripening right now

Hello Abimael

Do you have any abiu seeds available?

Thanks
Brad

Hi Squam

I noticed you said “used to”.  Did none of the white sapote varieties impress you?  Which was the best of the varieties that you have tasted?

Congrats Simon!  That is so exciting!

My Honey KIss Mango tree has leaf tip burn from the cheap store fertilizer I used.

The tree is 4 years in the ground and 6’ tall.

Is osmocote a good alternative?  I was thinking I need to go to something with more slow release nitrogen.

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Black Sapote - Dry?

The underripeness makes sense.  I let it get soft like a ripe avocado, but I didn't wait for the skin to turn black on the outside.  It was still green.

Thanks everyone!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Black Sapote - Dry?
« on: August 01, 2020, 09:47:20 AM »
My Maher Black Sapote just fruited for the first time this year.  It's about a 4 year old tree.  It made a few dozen fruits.  They are upwards of 2 pounds each.  I just picked one fruit when it got lighter green colored and developed some small black spots on it.  When I ate the fruit, it tasted drier than I remember black sapote fruit tasting.

Is the the dryness something specific to the Maher variety, or is this something that happens with younger Black Sapote trees?

Thanks,
Brad

Can anyone explain to me why dragon fruit farms often grow their dragon fruit in containers vs in the ground?

In Sarasota, it’s a great year for lychees.

FZS / Sweetheart / Hak Ip = great fruit set
Mauritius = great fruit set
Emperor = excellent fruit set, heaviest of my varieties
Kaimana = decent (medium) fruit set
Ohia = nothing
