Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's wrong with my Loquats?
« on: April 18, 2020, 12:01:06 AM »

A few of my Big Jim Loquats are doing this. I cut them open, no bugs. Weather has been a little cold (gloomy 65f-70f daytime) and we just got a little rain. They almost look like...well lets just say I wasn't sure if I should mark this post NSFW ;D Anyone had this problem before?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone Tried Egg Layering?
« on: April 14, 2020, 08:09:02 PM »
I wanted to do some air layering around the yard, and in the past I've used old plastic bottles and had some success, but I want something easier and reusable. I wasn't about to spend $30 for a couple of small plastic air layer globes, so I bought some Easter eggs! Now is the time, everything Easter is on major clearance. I bought 20 of the big eggs and 30 of the small all for around $10.

Here are some pics of them on my Nazemetz Pineapple Guava.

They already had the holes for the strings, you just have to make the hole for the branch. A drill is no good as it might crack the egg, so I used a heated up screw driver tip to make the holes. Very quick and easy. Just pack them with moist soil and a little root hormone, snap them together on the branch and tie the string. Throw some foil over them and you're done! If you want, you can seal the holes better with plastic wrap or buddy tape if you're worried about the soil drying out.

I bought this second hand from someone on craigslist a few years ago. It had a tag from Mimosa Nursery (called, no help) and hand written on the other side was "Arrayant". There are a few plants called Arrayan, so I was hoping to get a proper identification from some pros, or one of you guys ;D It's flowering for the first time this year. Hopefully it fruits so it can help with identification. I think it's Psidium Sartorianum/Sartre Guava, but I see a lot of misidentifications with that plant. Some with golf ball sized fruits, others with berry sized. What do you guys think? Also, does anyone have any advice for the yellow leaves/green veins? Is that a PH problem? Nitrogen or iron deficiency? Thanks.
