Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / ISO meiwa, fukushu, owari, yuzu
« on: April 03, 2021, 03:14:05 PM »
I put some flying dragon seedlings in ground a couple of years ago and Iíd like to graft them this spring. Looking for those hardier types Iím in 7b North Georgia. This winter I covered calmondin and two lemons with frost fabric, c9 Christmas lights, and a thermocube and to my surprise didnít lose a leaf. Our low was only 19 degrees but I think the hardier ones Iím looking for will make it in colder temps.

I can pay postage or trade canna seeds, canna rhizomes, ornamental elephant ear bulbs

I see One Green World and MacKenzie farms do some. Any other sellers out there using these rootstocks?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Maui in January

I'll be heading to Maui on Thursday, for a week. Any good places for buying fruit this time of year?

This is happening to my Big Jim loquat. Any ideas what this could be? My only guess is sunscald (it's usually on the tops of fruit facing sun) but I haven't read anywhere about loquats getting sunscald. Also, it's only spring and mild (we did have a couple of strange days where it got 95 then went back down to 75)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Growing Fruit in Ft. Meyers
« on: October 20, 2015, 08:38:25 PM »
My wife and I are taking a trip in January to Ft. Meyers, FL with the intention of maybe moving there later in 2016.

I'm curious what grows successfully in that region. Some "light" internet research shows mangoes are growing there.

Any members from Ft. Meyer's on here?
Anyone know what subtropical/tropical/deciduous fruiting plants do well?

Thanks....

Citrus General Discussion / "Pug" my lemon tree?
« on: July 21, 2015, 02:05:52 AM »
I'd like to cut this lemon back to no vegetation. I want to keep it low because it can block light from my vegetable garden.

Do you think this is a good idea? I figure it will sprout like crazy but I don't really know. Seeing if anyone has tried this with citrus. Tree is decent age and trunk caliper.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is this Rajapuri Banana?
« on: June 13, 2015, 11:00:29 PM »
I was at HD and saw this banana, looked it up and it's supposed to be dwarf & cold tolerant so I decided to give it a go. Looking at images/descriptions online of Rajapuri it has green leaves. The one I bought has a very attractive variegation in the leaves.

Is the variegation something in young leaves that the banana grows out of?
Is this a different banana than the label?

FWIW, I don't trust HD labels, but the wholesaler sticker was on the pot as well, Musa Rajapuri. LavVerne is the wholesaler and they are a reputable company, not that they can't make mistakes.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Nor Cal Avocado ID
« on: February 08, 2015, 01:01:02 AM »
Any Ideas for this one? I figure it's a named variety because there are two trees planted next to each other. I assume this was done because they were A/B types. One never fruits and one has a lot of fruit on it now. It overhangs into my yard. My neighbor said his parents planted it (he has been living in the house his entire life and somewhere in his 50's I'm guessing).

The fruit has a bright, clean taste, with a nice amount of oil content. It is really good, and we much prefer it to Haas from the (maybe that is just from being bored of Haas I don't know...)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What are these bugs?
« on: June 11, 2012, 03:26:35 PM »
These were on the underside of a passionfruit leaf. I'm in San Jose, CA. I assumed they are on the "against us" side and they're gone now...

First Post! Like the forum very much....

I left a stake too long on this Lemon Guava and now it won't stand on its own. The top of the trunk is thicker than the middle. What should I do to correct this? And what time of year should I do it? (I'm in 9b, San Jose, CA).

Thanks for any input..
