What kind of fruit are these and from what kind of plant? And are they edible?

Thao,

The paired fruit are indicative of a member of the Apocynaceae, perhaps a Tabernaemontana or Strophanthus species. Do you know where the pictures were taken?

BTW, many species in this family are quite toxic, in case you were planning to sample the fruit.

It is Anodendron paniculatum Family Apocynaceae
It is from a climber.
It is known as theikelki in Mizoram,an Indian state

Thanks Roy and mangomike,

My cousin sent these pics to me from SE Asia(Laos). I've never eaten them before, but the locals including my family over there has eaten them before on numerous occasion. They say it have a tangy/sour/tart taste to it and eat it raw dip in a chili/salt mixture.

I don't think they know it's toxic either, I should let them know about it, but I don't think it will change their mind :(
