Myrtus communis fruit can be eaten fresh, but even if sweet, it is a bit adstringent, and have almost no pulp. Basicaly it's the skin, 1mm of flesh and a bunch of hard seeds.
The leaves can be used the same way as bay leaves for seasoning meats with a strong taste (game species). The fruits are used in some mediterranean islands to prepare a very good liquour, specially in Corsica, where it is called "Liqueur de Myrte".
