adam-is it normal for the leave tips to brown out like that?

That's what happens when your tree gets too hot and too dry...its normal for me in central FL, but people in a better region for growing cacao won't have it as much.
Older cacao leaves brown out like that here, and we have almost constant rain and super high humidity.

Then I don't feel too bad as its been raining continually for weeks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Anthracnose on cashew seedling?

haven't had time to go to get in the back.  but checked it out yesterday.  looks like it has somewhat abated. the leaves are growing okay from what I can tell. will still have to apply another round of fungicide or copper as bsbullie suggested.  hopefully it's on its way to recovery!

It's been rainy for a few days so can't check right now.  Nut one leaf did crisp up.

Don't worry I'm a newb in all sense of the word.

I'll look into ur suggestion.   As for fungicide I used daconcil (?).  Or something like that.

Oscar, will look like i'll be jumping over our fence to hack back the hale koa and Christmas berry to give more ventilation.  kinda too late on the planting, since it's been about a month since it went into the ground.  it's just the weather on Oahu has been kinda weird lately.  if by chance it does die, i'll have to rethink the location for the second seedling or look to plant something else.

not quite sure Oscar.  I'm guessing the current leaves are gonna get it and hopefully the new shoots will get past it.

personally, I would have planted it on a lower terrace with more exposure to the sun, but I kept hearing about people warning to keep it away from children if possible.  my neighbor had told me when he had one years ago, he'd get burns or something to that extent whenever he had to work underneath the tree.

maybe this is not a thought out idea, but has anyone thought about using the heat coming from a dryer vent?  Somehow it seems like it's wasted heat once it passes through the dryer.  maybe could be connected to this hot house to get some warm air into the hot house during the winter?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anthracnose on cashew seedling?
« on: November 13, 2015, 01:46:37 PM »
Hi, wanted to confirm if this was anthracnose hitting my cashew seedling.  Unfortunately, I am running of space and planted in an area that got partially shaded by the neighbors hale koa and areca palms.  I hacked away enough of the foliage to bring more sunlight and airflow to the area.  I also applied a garden shop fungicide.  the pics were taken prior to spraying the fungicide.  Any suggestions and what else I can do to minimize this ailment?  I also have a backup plant just in case...just need to figure out where to plant it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pitangatuba; Believe the hype.

There is a tremendous variation, in my experience.  Some will fruit by itself, and some will not. That's why I recommend at least two plants for cross pollination. I gave one plant to two different friends. Both of them reported that they got tons of flowers and zero fruits!

dammit.  well, soon enough will have 8 potted trees so I should have something pop out soon!

-only need one plant (but having more helps I'm sure)

I'm sure you only need one.  but when I bought my original plant (3ft tall) from Frankie's there were 4-6 trees and all had fruits.  so I took one home and the flowers remaining flowers that did open up never turned into fruit.  so I ended up buying another pitangatuba as well as placing the seedlings from adam's all together. so now I got 4 plants all within 2 ft of each other.  I should be having tons of these fruits in no time! :)
