This is by no means a huge tree and could be kept small. It starts flowering around 4' tall.  And realistically could be kept in a big pot in a greenhouse. In my opinion

But to answer everyone's orders I have contacted the source and should be able to get more fruits next week.  I will start filling the orders in order starting tomorrow

Do you still have some seeds Jeff?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pink guava
« on: September 22, 2016, 03:28:41 PM »
i have 4 fruiting types so far.
i have a large pink, no pics for it now.

i kind of like this small pink though.
the plant is in a 7gal container, and isnt but 3ft tall
its getting 8 to 10 fruits at a time for a "main crop"
and has a couple here and there through the year.
its still pretty young, so, that may change.

i had thought this was a root-cutting from the Mexican cream (yellow-ish)
but, i might have mixed it up with one i grew from seed.

I really like this large white fruit.
The first year, i hated eating guava because of the seeds
now i just chew the  seeds. not sure why i didnt do that before
i guess i thought they were too hard, but im pretty pleased with chewing them
and really like this white fruit.

the pink is OK, just not quite as sweet.
my large pink is about the same.

Thanks sharkman! As far as I know Bali is self-pollinating. So better stick to that.

Is "Osmocote Pro 19-5-8 Minors, 8- 9 Month" good one for the container grown trees?

Looks like it could be manganese deficiency. For potted plants, I always liked scotts osmocote pro with minors. It will keep your potted plants green and healthy for months. You won't see a green-up right away though -- the newer leaves will emerge green, but he older ones will stay unhealthy looking.

I don't know how big your operation is, but a pre-emergent (eg, ronstar) for the trees that you're not going to be harvesting fruit from for a least a year is a huge help to prevent weed growth. Otherwise, it's a constant battle to pick out the weeds, especially when you're giving your potted plants fertilizer (which you should be doing).

Hi Jeff!

Would you mind sharing a link as to where  scotts osmocote pro with minors and ronstar can be purchased? I guess I need them for my trees in containers.

Thanks

I had babaco growing well for about 6 months and then it died. Both Babaco and Tamarillo have done great until July and then both died. If I were to try them again, I would have them in the shade. The Tamarillo fruited but died before they ripened. The Babaco flowered, but then died.

Thans Geosulcata!  Is Babaco self-pollinating?

Babaco does not like temps above 80f. I am sure however you can graft it to a disease resistant healthy rootstock. Should impart some adaptability to low land tropical climate.

Thank you nullzero!

Yes, As I know it's cold-hardy at least as Carica papaya...

Thanks Delvi83 ! I guess Florida is too hot and wet for Babaco...

The new foliage actually looks good. I wonder if the old foliage just hung around for too long?

Right! It seems like the old foliage does not go easily and quickly...

Josh that is Trina in the picture who manages the nursery at Peter and Alisons place and that is a trellised tree on their farm.It would be small anyway but not that small.
Onur they like humidity and dry wind can cause them harm.

Thanks Mike! Although I kept them in a little green house, they still died. I can only think of the difference in climate between Hawaii and Florida as the reason.

Depends on the circumstances. Rainy weather + a large container of peaty soil + a small tree would mean wet feet. It could also be leaf hopper. I'd be curious to see the pictures.

Are you sure it's due to insects in the soil? Annonas are not fond of soil that retains moisture. So, peaty mixes can be an issue, especially in this rainy weather.

The other thing that tends to make annonas look like pupe here is the green leafhopper. Though, they seem to be less prevalent during the rainy season.

Any pictures?

Thanks for the answer Jeff!  I also have the other atemoyas such as Lisa, Geffner,...etc. And they look great!  However, Phet Pack Chong's leaves go yellow and look weak and unhealthy... Still you may be right by saying that it might stem from wet bottom... What is strange about it is that I still keep it in its original 15 gallon container as I bought it from the seller. It had no leaves on then, though...  I will post pics tomorrow. Would you suggest making more holes at the bottom?

Here are the pics Jeff. Hope they are good enough to give you an idea...

For those people who received keledang seeds from me a couple of years ago I did say and shown in the pictures that fruit were large, big bulbed, brighter orange fleshed than usual and of excellent taste.I also mentioned that it fruits at a small tree size with the mother tree staying quite small and producing heavily.I won't repost the internal fruit pics again but here is the mother tree.It has the best keledangs in the district.

Beautiful trees and fruits Mike! I tried to grow two little Keledang seedlings but they died for a reason I could not figure out ! They had come from Hawaii. Please let me know when you have seeds as I really want to have a Keledang tree.
