This is what google told me about the Awahia onion:
"Awahia is a new strain of Red Creole producing oblate or slightly flat bulbs 2 0.5-3 in. in diameter, which nevertheless still possess high soluble solids, firm texture and tight scales and show no root development after 6 months' storage. Losses from bacterial soft rot and black mould have been less than 2 %, and the onion retains its flavour well on cooking." (1960)

I obtained the seeds from Hawaii and just planted them last night, so I can't elaborate on the taste.
