keitt seedling branching at 2 months
« on: September 28, 2020, 01:38:46 PM »
so i was outside the other day checking on my rootstock seedlings and i noticed something strange. 2 of the seedlings which are about 2 to 3 months old are forming what look like branches where the leaves attach to the stem.

has anyone seen seedlings grow branches at only 2 monthes? theyre only about 12 inches tall, will add pics when i get home.

I have also seen trees with branches. At some point all the mango rootstocks will develop branches, just some may have been faster than others. I guess you are suprised that they branched out at such an early age?

yes, trees with branches are very rare where i live, ive only seen 1 or 2 in my entire life.......

what i meant was, these seedlings are only abount a foot tall and already branching, im just suprised that such a short tree can already produce branches.

I've been growing several dozen seedlings each season for the last three years, it's rare, but I've seen a few. I haven't really inspected what might have been the cause (I'm just using them for rootstock), but I'd imagine it's from damage, nutrition, or other health issue.

+1 also if the tip of the new growth gets damaged, it can cause it to branch out.

It could have been bitten by an insect or somehow got damaged.

they seem to be pretty healthy, i had to put them under some shade because the sun was starting to burn the new growth.
