SOLD OUT Abiu Pouteria caimito seeds Florida USA
« on: September 28, 2020, 02:11:59 PM »
Sold Out. Thank you. I'll repost when I get some more fruit. Multiples seasons per year.

Fresh Florida grown Abiu seeds. $3 ea. $4 shipping in a padded mailer with tracking. USA only.

Decent flavor and super productive. Could possibly be crossed with other slightly better tasting less productive types since the tree has 5 different grafts on it. This is a seedling I bought from Zill's years ago.

PM me and I'll send my paypal info.

I'll be back on Tropical Fruit Forum a bit more. I took a much needed break from most social media, excessive phone use and whatnot outside of a couple dedicated projects. Thanks for looking.  - Josh

They look pretty good and I'm guessing they are around a pound each and have 2 seeds/fruit? I think it was Whitman/Grimal who received seeds from Don Gray of the Gray variety which is very good. Whitman/Grimal grew them and found them to be excellent. Gray variety looks much like this and have been in Florida for more than 40 years. I wonder if these could have derived from that same lineage.

Found an article on the prelude to the interaction I spoke of.

Hi Mike, thanks for the info. Did you have to start a new account? This was the largest fruit out of this bunch. Close to 1lb. Flavor was excellent. Zero latex.

The fruit next to it with a nipple is a seedling of the best ones I have tasted. The original seed came from a round fruit and was imported from Brazil by a now deceased collector. It was most likely pollinated by his other tree in the back that had a nipple. He imported that seed from Peru.

I am trying to do some breeding and selection here. Hopefully something great comes out of it.

Hey! – See if you can breed maybe just a little bit of cold tolerance into it!

Cheers!

It sure looks like a Gray variety to me and one Whitman spoke of even if a little smaller. Good bearing, a little nippling going on, nice even pale yellow skin and that translucent flesh. The taste profile should have caramel and a hint of vanilla. Regardless of whether it is a direct lineage to the Whitman tree it looks great and people snap up these seeds.

I posted more pictures of the fruit on my IG account https://www.instagram.com/vernmented/  It is mostly fruit but isn't very active but since I have no interest in managing social media accounts right now. You can really see the difference in the flesh. The longer nippled fruit was much fluffier consistency.
