Since 2006, Lanxi has developed "Zaojia Yangmei" through seedling breeding and high-level grafting. In September 2013, it was identified and named by Zhejiang Forest Variety Approval Committee. The fruit of this variety is nearly spherical, with bright purple-black surface, uniform coloring, yellow-green pedicle, hard flesh and strong flavor. The average single fruit weight is 12.5 g, the fruit shape index is 0.96, and the edible rate is 95.7%. The content is 11.4%, the total sugar content is 10.3%, the total acid content is 1.17%, the citric acid content is 1.08%, the vitamin C content is 21.7 mg·kg-1, and the quality is above average.
"Zaojia" bayberry grows moderately, and the tree is dwarfed. The maturity period in Lanxi is generally at the end of May and early June, 15 days earlier than "Dongkui" bayberry. Zaojia bayberry fruit is large and early ripening, with good fruit performance, stable yield and excellent quality.
