Hello AL the time to plant cherry trees is in winter.  They have grafted bare root trees for sale every year in January at the local nursery here.  I am sure someplace near you also sells Dave Wilson trees.

I searched around the local nursery during the spring time here, they were selling different varieties of cherry none of them had Royal Lee and Minnie Royal.

Dave wilson ships the trees bare root in early January and they sell out in a week or 2. 

You can either buy rootstocks online from burnt ridge nursery in winter and graft them a year later, or find a nursery that gets the bare root trees in january.  Walter andersens in poway has them every year.  Theres surely a nursery in LA thwt has them also.  But they dont put them in pots and sell at the store.  They always come bare root unless the nursery cant move them and pots them.

I would recommend Royal Crimson instead.  It is self fertile, larger and tastes better.  In my opinion it is better than Royal Lee and Minnie Royal in all ways.  I have a large 15 for sale if you are interested.

Dave Wilson still recommends planting it with a second variety.  Good luck.  Cherries are awesome, says this Florida mango lover!

Or get one tree to save space and graft the others onto it. I concur on the royal crimson, very tasty 😋

The cal poly pomona nursery had the cherries last time i went. Dont know if they have them in 5 gallon anymore since its late in the season to plant deciduous trees.
