Nice video walk thru. The TR Hovey looks amazing, have you tried any of the fruit yet?
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Nice Mangodoggy , it looks like the frost cloth worked well and the trees are healthy so far.

Good luck with the rest of winter.

Gary,

Thanks for the virtual tour.  Looks like everything survived the cold weather pretty well.
Nice and toasty in the hoop house too...hope the mango trees get enough water!

Thanks for posting! Love your landscaping, especially the pond, waterfall and papayas!  Are those the same papaya you use heating cables on?

Eeegads no, Californiatropicals!

Those died in the spring of 2008 when I left those darn cables plugged in.
No, the TR Hovey's you see there I got as seedlings in 2012 and the Mexican Papaya on
the left is from 2011 - probably a Home Depot purchase....

Impressive! What's your average, day time winter temperature? here papayas languish until their roots die ( in winter) but our winter highs are 50's to low 60's

MDog

very nice! I think your thermometers were wrong....there is NO way you hit 30F at your house last weekend. You better take those frost covers off it was 79F today and 80F degrees for the next three days.

You have a beautiful yard Mangoperro. I especially love the mandarin orange tree!

Thanks, MarinFla!

And California Tropicals - Dec. our average high is around 66-67, and lows around 44-45.
Then in January it creeps up to 68-70 and lows 46-48....  December is definitely the most
dangerous month from my experience....I pull my watering tubes about 12 inches away from the
base of all my papayas just so the bottom trunk of the papayas don't rot, and it seems to
be working so far....

JF - It didn't hit 30 only 33 the other weekend - twice.  Yeah, the temps are nice now, but with me
being gone for the next 3 weeks, I'm going to leave those frosties on, just in case, amigo!

Must have been for a short period because your papayas and bananas look great. 3 weeks wow! You shouldn't have any problems the forecast looks good for the next two weeks.

Are any of your papayas hawaiian? I saw on the video you mentioned mexican papaya, which are slightly hardier.. but I've never tried growing mexican papayas because.... well I don't like the taste so much.. lol My plant is to graft tropical Hawaiian papaya onto my Babaco papaya..I tried babaco fruit this year.. It's not.... pleasant but the plant thrives and suffers no root rot as Hawaiian papaya does.

Papaya would be excellent fruit to have growing in the yard.  I love papaya!  It's pretty expensive too!

Cherimoya is working out for me too, Cherimoya in local stores is usually 7 to 9 dollars a pound..
