What will this do to the jabo? I know tomato growers do a foliar spray on the leaves to boost their resistance against pest and diseases.

The guy said it would help fruiting faster ...I don't know that's why I asked the forum .

Jaboticaba gets a headache from such a stupid suggestion. Asprin helps it to deal with the stupidity. *Canopypalm*

Cant get enough drugs in our environment without putting them on our fruits. I think viagra would work better.. someone should consult their licensed physician.

Believe its a rooting hormone. See willow tea. Never heard of it helping w rooting fruiting.

My wife says viagra for male plants aspirin for female.

With Christmas trees and cut flowers I believe you add a crushed aspirin and sugar to the water to make them last longer?  Not sure how this would help with Jabo, maybe helping with nutrient uptake?  Sounds like some myciaria expert needs to run and experiment.

While i was reading about willowtree hormone i also found many reply's about aspirin. It seems to contain the same chemicals as willow-rooting hormone. I 'm using willow-tea on my seedlings and all just planted tree's and lawn. I walk along a willowtree daily so then i bring some branches for the tea.

Hi Luc,

I haven't tried it myself but I did a little looking.  I didn’t look for anything specific to jaboticaba but just the effect of aspirin on plants.

This books talks about it as now being considered a plant hormone:
http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=i0B1EhxhdBkC&oi=fnd&pg=PR17&dq=aspirin+plant+growth&ots=VWJZTW77oA&sig=0o-TIJwUGCJMZCDivWgNYwCUyaY#v=onepage&q=aspirin%20plant%20growth&f=false

This article says it increases cold resistance in corn seedlings but also retards growth:
http://www.cabdirect.org/abstracts/20000710520.html;jsessionid=5DC332FA1DBF2DDE8F456B976BF44FA2

Many others say aspirin infers resistance to pests and disease.

http://link.springer.com/article/10.1023/A:1006386800974#page-1

It looks like aspirin may make plants better able to handle stresses and therefore allows the plant to grow faster.  I assume this faster growth may lead to a larger tree and faster fruiting in jaboticaba, but I might be jumping to conclusions.

Idea of aspirin came from ancient use of willow bark extract against headaches, both contain salicylic acid. It's well known that salicylic acid helps with rooting. We used to put aspirins in flower vases also to maintaiin cut flowers longer. As to getting fruit trees to fruit faster---i suppose it's possible if they also are rooting faster. But how many aspirins or bottles of aspirins would you have to use on a full grown tree? Seems like the cost of the aspirin might be higher than the cost of the fruit produced?

Sadly that seems true of most of my gardening.  :o
