Top Tropicals just put up three new mango varieties for sale: Corn, Jean Ellen and Julliette. Any experience with these three? Worth collecting?

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for Angie Mango
« on: January 21, 2013, 05:32:56 PM »
I have been looking for the Angiea and Pina Colada mango tree for a long time with no success. Is it possible anybody could buy the trees locally in FL and ship them to me in CA?
I will pay for the trees and all expenses involved in getting them to me. I believe USPS prioroty mail is the best way to ship it.
Please please let me know if anyone is willing to help. I would really appreciate it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / I Just ordered a Maha from Top Tr. today!
« on: December 02, 2012, 05:04:01 PM »
I was browsing Top Tropicals website last night and very surprisingly found Maha Chanok for sale finally after it has been shown as backordered on this webiste for years. I've never ordered from Top before and have heard many negative comments about them, but after much debating, I ordered one today and the total including shipping to CA is $128. It is cheaper than Plantogram whose price is around $155 after shipping.
I am keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully I will get the real Maha Chanok soon, not just some mislabeled mango tree. I will post a pix once I get the tree, and hopefully the mango gurus here could help me prove it's identity.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My Mail Order from Hawaii just Arrived Today!
« on: November 01, 2012, 12:12:55 AM »
Just received five trees from Hawaii today via FedEx 2nd day. Beautiful trees that arrived in perfect condition. Highly recommend this nursery for mail orders.

1. Garcinia Sp. (madrono del monte)

2. Garcinia magnifolia

3. Annona scleroderma (posh-te)

4. Rollinia Deliciosa (Biriba) #1

5. Rollinia Deliciosa (Biriba) #2

6. Bolivian mangosteen got from Montoso Garden about six months ago

The last picture (#6, the Bolivian Mangosteen) was marked as Garcinia Sp. by Montoso Garden, which is the same as the madrono del monte as in picture #1. This is confusing since these two are definitely two different  trees and their common names are different. How come their botanical names are both Garcinia Sp. Anybody has the answer?

Hi all, I will be able to get some fruit trees from FL this weekend. They are mostly various mango trees and some other popular fruit trees too. I am wondering if anybody in SoCal wants to buy anything. I am asking for $85 each 3 gallon.
If you are interested, please post here or email me what trees you want before 4pm Friday. I will get the trees according to the total demand. Btw, I am in Corona, CA, riverside county. Local pick up is preferred. I can also ship if have to.
Btw, according to source of these trees from FL, these 3 gallon trees equal 7 to 10 gallons trees you can find in CA.

Hi Bill, I was following your post about your mango tree purchases from FL. If I am right, you got some trees from TT and others including a 7 gallon Maha. How are the trees doing? I am especially interested in the Maha. Any pictures to share?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Which is the best guava?
« on: September 14, 2012, 10:35:42 PM »
I grow four guava cultivars in Socal. They are grafted China White, grafted Mexican Cream, air layered Giant Vietnamese, seedling Tropical Pink and seedling Mexican Pear. Most of these are propagated by La Verne Nursery.
My questions are first of all, what other cultivars are better both in terms of flavor and production. I can get FL cultivars if necessary.
Second, why are the names of guava cultivars not uniform most of the time? It seems to em that some of the names are way too generic; and some cultivars seem to have different names.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruiting Shade Tree for So Cal
« on: July 07, 2012, 02:19:31 AM »
I have an area facing the southwest in my yard that I put all my potted plants at. I want to plant some shade trees there to provide shades in the hot So Cal sun. It is great if the tree can fruit, but no fruiting shade trees are ok too if they grow fast. Actually fast growth in So Cal is a must since my potted trees are getting sunburns now already. My local Home Depot in Corona, CA has Mimosa trees now that seem like interesting; I am also considering Pakisyan mulberry and maybe queen palms. Any better options?
Any opinions will be appreciated.

** mod edit:  corrected "shade" **

I bought a tree tagged as Taiwanese Atemoya from an asian nursery a couple weeks ago. However, when I came back to this nursery about a week later, the owner told me the tree I got might be mislabled and it might be a sugar apple instead of atemoya.
I have a Geffner atemoya and the mysterious tree's leaves definitely look completely different from Geffner's leaves. The shape of the mysterious tree's leaves is narrower and longer than Geffner's leaves. Annona experts, please help me identify the mysterious tree. Thanks!

Hi JF, have you got hold of Roger? Are you gonna visit him tomorrow after the Costco trip? If so, when is he available? I want to buy some cherimoya trees from him tomorrow if possible. Thanks!

Went to Greenmart nursery in Orange, CA today and bought a Taiwanese Atemoya and Pakistan Mulberry. Anyone knows what variety the Taiwanese Atemoya is? The owner is Taiwanese and he told me this variety is from Taiwan. I am just wondering if anybody has experience with this Atemoya.
I also saw a grafted cherimoya grown by La Verne nursery and the tree tag says the name of this variety is Cherimoya Vietnamese, any experience?
