Question for JF
« on: May 16, 2012, 10:36:01 PM »
Hi JF, have you got hold of Roger? Are you gonna visit him tomorrow after the Costco trip? If so, when is he available? I want to buy some cherimoya trees from him tomorrow if possible. Thanks!

ahhh, it is evident if you have a PM on the top of every page of the forum/website.  There will be a number next to messages plus you would get an email.  If one visits the forum on a regular bases, and JF does, they would easily see if they have a PM.

Well folks, the eagle has landed! Early this morning my sources at Costco Fountain Valley informed me that  they received 70 pallets of tropicals from La Verne Nursery. They are stocking as we speak!!Mamey Sapote (grafted 4-5 feet) $39, Mangos (grafted 3-4 feet) $33 ect. lots more. I'm trying to upload pics right now. I will not be able to make it but Cuban007 will be the picking up a few trees for me, If you can make it down to Fountain Valley today do so.

Joe, this is wonderful. Wondering if othe Costco are stocking as well. I will find out.  On Another note, I see Cherimoya at Costco from the picture?  Also, Mamey Sapote? Or Mamey Sapodilla?

I must be confused. Plantogram offers Mamey under sapodilla, so I was wondering if its a sapodilla or sapote. from my understanding sapodilla and sapote are two differ things. no?

Is this just today, or will it be going on tomorrow as well.  I have to go to LA tomorrow anyway, so this might be worth the stop.

I checked Irvine Costco by El Toro Y and nothing there. Wondering if its just that one Costco in Fountain Valley, I highly doubt it. others may be getting delivery as well.

Hey folks, I just came back from Costco in Fountain Valley with 7 trees. I bought 2 Fino, 1 Honeyheart and 1 Vietnamese Cherimoyas at $25.95 each. I also bought a Mamey Sapote at $39.95, a Haden mango at $39.95, and 1 Goldfinger banana at $16.95. All the cherimoyas and mangos are grafted, but the mammey sapote is not, it is a seedling.
There are also avocados, Keitt, Timatayo and manila mangos. asian pears and passion fruit vines for sale.
The prices are great. There are quite some trees left when I left, but I think the good ones won't last long. If anyone is interested, you'd better hurry. I will post pictures later.

NDM can behave differently. Never hurts to have more than one. I have 3 of #4 and one NDM old style grafted by Jeff Hagen. The #4 NDM all behave differently

Thanks for the correction GTW, the Mamey's are NOT grafted. There was only 17 pallets not 70,opps :)
Anyhow, let's support La Verne Nursery in their efforts to make Tropicals affordable for all of us in Socal and send a message to PlanOgram and Pine Island: sell us your Tropicals at a fair PRICE! As mention, I could not make it to FV Costco but from all indications they have an impressive selection of Tropicals from La Verne Nursery.  My sources tell me we don't have to worry about Roger Meyer he one of the first costumers in line :) I hope everyone makes it to FV before Sunday.

The problem with getting from Florida to CA is freaking CA regulations and certification, that is what I was told north of $40/ea. I have used Plantogram, others are very expensive and not as good quality plants. My Alphonso was 6' tall and stock was 1.5" thick with 7 branches. Cant ask for healthier Mango. My Lychee is another story as he ran out of inventory.

No one here had Alphonso and Minosa wanted $129 for 4' tree. I paid total $100, It was cheaper. It depends on what you getting. Like we cant find Maha Chanok here, dumb nurceries dont have any plans either. May be Eathen should start Maha Chanok!

Yeah but La Verne's grafts are known for being really high.  Quality rules.  You know the old saying, "good _____ are not cheap and ____ are not good"...
