Is it normal for a seedling to flower so soon.  The seedling was purchased at Daley's nursery 2015 in Australia, it was a trial plant.
The flowers did not pollinate well in late 2018 but the next flowering in 2019 produced fruit. Then I missed one lot of fruit which turned into seedlings at the base.  This year I managed to eat and save a few seeds.  It is a great flavour.
It is growing in a rubbish bin and is just over a metre high.  Is this normal?

This 20 year old tree has never been pruned and is growing with 2 others closeby, within 3 metres.

They fruit a few times a year especially after a good lot of rain. The only thing I do is give them some Chicken pellets when it rains.  It is a sight to see when the large Aussie Carpenter bees takes a flight path straight along the flowering branches. Our trees are so full of different bees, I have lost count.

Do you think I should prune the inside branches. They are in their natural state without any trimming.

Can I graft a P. coronata scion onto this tree. We are in sub-tropical Brisbane.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Proper Names of Jaboticaba
« on: May 15, 2020, 10:48:17 PM »
Can anybody give me with the proper name of Grimal Jaboticaba.
Many years ago I bought a wide leaf Jaboticaba with slender trunk, larger fruit and thicker skin. The fruit is very good quality but not as many as Sabara. It is about 15 years old and 3m high.
The 2 fine leaf Sabara are fruiting so much, they are nearly 20 yr old.  The coronata is fruiting early, got it in 2015.
Starting to get a collection up now thanks to Nth. Queensland seller.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango cutback.
« on: May 10, 2020, 12:59:00 AM »
Hi, I have some dwarf and smaller mango varieties, One is R2E2 which is growing narrow and tall. When would be the best time to take the main trunk down a size, to help it bush out for more flowering tips.  Also have a King Thai which is about 1 1/2 m high, single trunk.  A Royal Red which is growing well and a dwarf Irwin still growing well.
My aim is to keep the fruit on lower branches when they finally flower.  Normally I presume one would do this after finished fruiting but these are not yet setting fruit.  Do I cut back in Spring in sub-tropics.  Your advice would be welcome.
I have some KP's, are any of these growing tips suitable for grafting onto KP trees.
