Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Star fruit seeds and cassava cuttings
« on: January 26, 2017, 06:36:59 PM »
Right now due to need for harvest I have tons of star fruit seeds picked from fresh fruit. Anyone interested please pm me! Into trades too.

Also I have a few cassava plants which I can make cuttings from. They are large thick cuttings! Will make at least about a foot long.

Both for sale or trade. $15 per 120 star fruit seeds and/or cassava thick cuttings for $1.50 each plus shipping.

Thanks! DG

Citrus General Discussion / Citrus from seeds
« on: November 15, 2016, 09:02:02 AM »
Been trying to research citrus from seeds and likelihood of true to type or at least quality fruits.

A few online articles suggest against conventional knowledge some citrus will in fact grow true or at very least produce good fruit. Then there's also the argument that if no one planted seeds there would be no creation of new varieties nonetheless. A third argument arises in that even if you grow citrus from seed and it doesn't produce good fruit you still have a nice tree with its taproot ready to graft good varieties onto. Another seemingly logical argument suggests if your seeds came from a store bought fruit it likely came from a grove of nothing but the same type of fruit and unless it came from the margins of the grove even cross pollination between middle grove trees cannot result in bad fruits or far from true fruits because they could have only crossed with themselves which are all good genetics. Too much to consider without growing seeds yourself and waiting.

Can anyone shed some personal experience on this? Not asking for the conventional answer here but for people who may have grown fairly true citrus from seed to share their thoughts and experience.

Thanks! DG

Cold Hardy Citrus / Zone 8 cold hardy citrus(panama city, fl region)
« on: November 08, 2016, 09:17:22 AM »
Before too long I will be moving up to the Panama city area. I love citrus fruits and use stuff such as limes and lemons a lot but love them all. I was wondering if any of y'all would be kind enough to give me a good list of citrus that would grow there in outdoor conditions without much protection. Root stock and edible quality suggestions welcome.

Would trade for anything that's container tolerant at least a few years. All kinds of stuff to trade but I guess FL members I can only trade with. Lots of perennial tropical veggies, herbs, tropical fruits, rare sacred plants to trade. If your looking for anything just ask I may have!

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Moving to zone 8b
« on: May 31, 2016, 04:30:39 PM »
Hello all! In a few short months I will be moving to zone 8b. The average low temps are projected at 15-20F in the winter months. I'm super excited to start a new food forest asap but its sad leaving my zone 9b-10 food forest that's 4 years into establishment. Wasn't aware I was gonna have to move but it is what it is as they say. Saying goodbye to my easy tropical growing...

The reason for the thread is to get ideas of what all I can grow. I want to grow citrus of sorts but not anything I'll have to protect with massive effort. I also want to grow avocado, banana, and stuff on the exotic side. I heard there are possibly cold hardy avocado that may survive those temps. Is that at all true? I know there are some bananas for sure but are there any tolerant enough not to protect at all? I would also like multiple varieties of banana too if possible. I know pineapple guava should be hardy enough but what other exotics might do well? Jujube?

Any help would be awesome! I surely am gonna do all the convectional stuff. Blueberries, apples, etc.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / A few Tejecote seeds to trade
« on: December 20, 2015, 08:33:58 AM »
I have a few Tejecote seeds to trade. Its a small fruit in the hawthorn family. Grainy like texture but lightly sweet and smells like grape soda. Grainy texture due to high pectin content which is a good quality really. Supposedly one of the more useful hawthorns. Have only about 15 seeds to trade.

Looking for any random smaller tree or shrub that produces good fruits here in zone 9-10. Please make an offer if your interested. Also have star fruit seeds from my own seed grown tree. This tree actually produces big juicy fruits albeit a non grafted tree.

Thanks! DG

Anyone have seeds available for this species? Was at a large botanical garden garden recently and this tree is magnificent looking for a tropical accent and apparently has sweet edible fruits. Looking to add this here species to my growing food forest!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / looking for some seeds
« on: October 28, 2015, 07:01:32 AM »
Would love some kaffir lime and finger lime seeds/plants of good lineage. Tried messaging people whom have made offers to no avail. Maybe its because I'm new here??? However I've traded with several of you already and bought seeds from several of you.

Can someone I've exchanged with chime in here to show my legitimacy? Maybe that'll help??? Not sure how you build reputation here. I've got tons of rare plants to exchange people and am only looking to diversify my garden more!

Thanks! DG

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Wanting rare fruits
« on: July 12, 2015, 05:57:57 PM »
Hello!

New member here but really excited to join a fruit growers forum. A small bit about me first and why I'm here. First I love me some fruits! Want to grow it all! I'm ambitious about growing tropical fruits, veggies, and herbs and I love to try new and exotic things that tingle the taste buds! Currently working on a food forest project in my yard that's just now getting growing good. I want to self sustain as much as possible and grow the majority of my own food in the future.

Anyways I'm joining here to contribute as much as possible and also obtain new gems for the project. I want the rarest of the rare fruits that can handle my zone 9-10 environment. So far by way of fruits and edibles in general I'm growing the following species: jabutchacaba(sp?), egg fruit, goji, golden berry, passion fruits, jujube, moringa, guava, black mulberry, russian olive, cassava, chaya, loquat, star fruit, pomelo, paw paw, persimmon, cherimoya, sour sop, cinnammon, ayahuma, albertia sessilis(sp?), blueberry, blackberry, suriname cherry, sugarcane, miracle fruit, brazilian cherry, nutmeg, black pepper, tree collards, and probably a ton of stuff I can't think of right now...banana too!

Here's what I want to find:
green monkey orange (Strychnos spinosa)
not edible but Sapindus saponaria or soapberry
raspberry, blackberry, brambles in general suitable to my area
blueberry for my area
strawberry
kumquat
other citrus especially container capable varieties
perennial veggies of any sort
rare cooking herbs
rare fruits suitable for my area...anything anything that's good and/or massively productive
even entheogens are welcome

Will trade or buy to seal any good deal!

Thanks D-Grower
