These are a native plant that grows wild. I forget what it is called Racoon Melons or something like that someone told me once. They are generally considered only good for wildlife to eat. They are related to watermelons like the wild cousin. There is also a tomato like plant with tiny not very good fruits which is like the wild ancestor of the domesticated tomato. They are native to Mexico but I saw one growing wild in Florida before (the tomato ones are native to Mexico, I think the melons are native to North America but I'm not sure).
