Very cool! I just planted out Ruby Supreme and Mexican Cream. I've only tried Ruby Supreme (my favorite, so far), Mexican (not Mexican Cream), and Pink. Are you having any pest issues? Thanks!

Yes 2018 was my first yr growing guavas. Bagging the fruit seemed to work preventing fruit flys from laying eggs into the fruits. The whitefly has given me the most grief. I have been spraying the underleaf with pressured water and thats been helping keep their numbers in check.  Hard pruning at summers end also helped get them in control.

Do any of those cultivars not have that funky smell?  I want to love guavas but just can’t get past the smell.

I am so excited. I planted my kilo guava 2 months ago and it has ONE bud😀
The plant almost died in the first days because of fruit fly.
Thanks for all the info on cultivars.

White TW Pearl. Small tree in container produced large crunchy fruit.

King Kong. Low seeds counts and likely the best in my yard.

Emperor. New addition and yet to taste.

I saw these Taiwan guava varieties on the website of a nursery in SoCal with broken English descriptions.
Have always wondered how good they are.  How did each variety do this year?

The trees are doing great especially after storm etna, my best producer has been Excalibur guava which i think is also known as common homestead guava. Its in the lowest spot for my guavas others are further up on hill and don’t do as good, i would plant Guavas in lowlands.

I went to Excalibur once when I was in Lake Worth FL.  The worker there told me his favorite is the ONG or Ong guava.  Which ones are the tastiest for you?

I noticed you properly wrote ‘Ruby’ x ‘Supreme’ as a hybrid unlike most people. I found your comment referencing the Excalibur as a common Homestead interesting, but it’s a potential MISNOMER.

In fact the ‘R’ x ‘S’ hybrid between a red ‘Ruby’ and a white ‘Supreme’ is the legitimate ‘HOMESTEAD’ cultivar whose name has unfortunately been washed out by the hybrid name. It was hand pollinated by Dr. George Ruehle (RFCI founder) in 1944 at UF TREC in Homestead’s Redland.
