My local co-op doesn't say anything about citrus at all

52
I do not have macrophile.  It is to sensitive to cold to grow this far north even with protection.

53
I have not done any ring bark grafting.  My goal is to get a Meiwa kumquat grafted to sour orange by using a compatible inter stock such as Poncirus trifoliata.

Sour orange had 49 seeds.

grafting to PT should work well.  kumquats grow so slow it will be had for it to survive.  I have a Fukushu kumquat grafted to Poncirus Trifoliata and that Poncirus is grafted to sour orange.

The whole tree

You can unwrap a plant for upsizing with the roll but you can't transplant a tree from a rootmaker pot non-destructively

It is very easy to set up perfect growing conditions so a small tree can grow 3 years worth in 1 year.

poncirsguy, your FD does not look like it is 2.5 yrs old, it looks much older. I have a 35 year old FD and it's trunk diameter is 2". How large is your FD trunk diameter? Maybe the photo makes it look larger than it is.
The FD was 2.5 years old at grafting and the tree was grafted 2 years ago so the FD is now 4.5 years old.  The tree was grown under ideal conditions and grew much faster than normal.

At time of grafting the FD rootstock was 2.5 years old and the sour orange about 1.25 years old.  Growth between the 2 is similar.  The soil is out of my compost pile pine bark mulch.  I did not screen for size.  Sour orange rootstock is on the slow growing side.  My original and only Valentine got sick and I did an emergency graft to save the cultivar and I think the valentine is 6 months younger than listed above.

Have you ever been to Zinzinnati, Ohio

No, never been there. Never been to the US either. Why?
Our professional base ball tea, The Cincinnati reds, referred to them as being in Zinzinnati.  Our city is of German heritage and misspelling it with Z's is supposed to give it a German twist.  With your name of Zitrus.... I though you may be from Cincinnati.

My hands shake too.  I t-Bud but I leave the leaf on so I can manipulate the bud into position.  I wrap the graft above and below then cut the leaf off and cover.

I don't notch my citrus and I get.

Most of my branching forms at the graft line.  My rootstock is Flying dragon so I know a root stock sucker by its leaves of 3.

The fruits have to ripen before first hard frost regardless of the tree's capability.
