I know Millet had talked about using miracle grow garden soil, perlite and I think CHC, but it’s been a while so I’m not sure. Can I use miracle grow garden soil and perlite for a quick and easy well draining mix to transplant the tree into? Tracking down CHC will be a pain right now.

Yes, but MGGS seems to vary regionally and you may need to adjust the ratio.  For my area it is heavy muck and I have to add mulch to it

brian is correct.  The value of MGGS depends on the area you live at.  Here in Colorado MGGS formulation is quite good.  I have never had a problem with it.  In other areas not so much.  Currently I have a tree planted in a 50/50 blend of Turface MVP and MGGS and it is growing quite well.  It has been in that medium going on two years with no apparent breakdown in texture.

Nooooooo 😩 I tried to repot it and the soil was mostly big rocks and sand.  So I tried spraying it off so I didn’t hurt the roots. When I put it in the pot the bottom 1/4-1/3 fell off! And took these roots with it. Also I was given miracle grow garden box soil instead of garden soil to put it in which had quite a bit of a large bark pieces in it. And I added about 1/3 perlite and  sent it to a little cooler climate by about 15 degrees. The question now is it going to live?

It will live.

Is what you're holding in your hand all that fell off the root ball? If so don't worry about it, but if more than that came off you might consider cutting the foliage back just a little to balance the root system with the top.

The bottom of root ball falling off may mean you have root rot.

I gathered most of the roots for the picture. It was in a 15 gallon pot. The only reason the roots fell off is because the soil was wet when I moved it to a larger pot because I tried to spray of the poor soil it was potted in and I didn’t have the bottom of the root ball like I thought I did. And when I lifted it up the weight of it ripped off the bottom part.

Heck, that root loss is nothing. I can't move my tangor to a bigger pot, so every few years I dump it out of the pot, whack off half the roots, refresh the soil and cram it back into the pot.  Haven't killed it yet!
