I am working on the above. I have a source in Japan, but it can be hard to get things across.
As far as the Chinadoll is concerned, I believe I can find it locally.
I received a scion as "Jim's Big White". Do you know much about this variety? Any chance that it is actually the Chinadoll?
I am willing to help you sourcing from Japan. It would be great if we can get some of the top Japanese varieties into the States.
Back to the original topic. I have heard very good things about Tori and Vista White.

I have 7 lucuma seedlings planted in fall 2017. They are about 3' tall in tree pots, slightly bigger than pencil-thick main stem, and some with small side branches. I read that it may take a super long time to fruit unless I graft them. Is now a good time to graft? Anyone have scions with superior fruit for sale of trade?

« on: August 06, 2018, 06:07:21 PM »Here is a photo of the opened Golden Nugget jackfruit from here in southern California. I think it fell off the tree a bit soon. There weren't very many mature seeds. The edible flesh was nice and sweet.
That looks pretty good. Amazing it's from California.

Guys if you have never ordered from mangoes from Tropical Acres Farms you need to especially if you don't live in Florida. It is the only way you can try phenomenal tasting rare varieties of mangoes that you would otherwise never be able to experience. Thanks again for coming thru for me Alex.
What was written on the M4 mango? Is it "Muunds"? Is that another name for M4?

I would definitely plant an M4 or ten. That fruit was from a young tree too, first year fruiting...can't wait to see what it can do once it gets older. Please guard your 2 fruits with extra care. Hope you get to experience the M4 magic this year. If you have some extra M4 scions...please do share. I, as well as everyone in SoCal, would definitely want to get our hands on it.
BTW, I confirm that M4 is polyembryonic... that seed is going into the pot.

Coconut Cream - first time trying a coconut-flavor mango. It really blew me away.
Haden - can't beat that classic taste
I will have a chance to taste some newer varieties next week, e.g. LZ, M4, Beverly...etc. Hope they will live up to the expectation.

Rajapuri - can't get enough of them. Of the 4 Indian mangoes I tried (Kesar, Badami, and Alphonso), this is by far the best. Kesar second.
M4 - complex flavor, super sweet, it reminded me of eating Rajapuri. Even though I did not detect much coconut flavor, I was like wow..wow...so good..wow..amazing..wow...the whole time.
Sweet Tart - had an orange flesh one. Strong citrus flavor...so good.
Coconut Cream - first time trying a coconut-flavor mango. It really blew me away.
Haden - bump off the list. It's good and classy, but nothing like the others.

Just had my first ever and only M-4. The skin looked dark green like an unripe mango. When I was peeling the skin, some area seem a bid harder to do...so I was thinking it could be uneven ripen. The flesh color was light yellow as if it was picked too early. All the visual cues pointed to a disappointment. But, rest assure, all is good once the tasting started. I did not detect a strong coconut flavor on this one...only a hint. But, the flavor complexity and its super sweetness made this mango one of the best I have had this year. Definitely live up to the hype.
Can it replace CC? If only I can get more to confirm...

The M4 is not mine. Actually, I do not have any name variety in fruiting stage yet. Only a supposedly 3-gal OS tree that looks more like 1-gal, some seedlings, and a couple unknown non-fruiting small trees. I am new to growing mango trees. That's why I am here to learn. This helpful thread has given me some good ideas of what trees to get next.
