The latest new variety I know is black sugar wax apple.  Have not idea of the dark dragon.  From the picture they don't look anything special.  Could it be just name it different for selling purpose.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fresh Yangmei Fruit on Weee!
« on: June 29, 2024, 01:11:14 PM »
Vietnamese nurseries have bad habit of renaming annoyas, wax apple, etc...

CalMei renaming varieties is going to be a nightmare.

I have mixed feelings about the use of trademark names but don't believe it is cause for any great concern.  The vast majority of fruit being purchased is from consumers who are not involved in growing fruits themselves and their interest is centered in the enjoyment of fresh fruit.  We have many different fruits that are sold with trademark names such as Sumo citrus, Pink Lady apples, etc.  I see grapes sold with interesting names and have no idea if they have other names but buy them and enjoy them.  What about the naming causes you concern?

You are not a grower nor a collector just want enjoy the fruits, then it is not an issue.
Many of us here are collector, this is a nightmare to us.

I have couple friends brought some from weeee, they all reported the fruits are bit of dry not as juicy as they ate in China.

I don't like CalMei renamed all the varieties.  Made a lot confusion to me.

Al, if you can wait, I will find a rootstock to graft you one. This is the best time for me to graft the Sangue e Latte. Most of the 12 I grafted was doing well until I took them out of the community pot and separated them to individual pots, they didn't make it. Barely recovered 2 rootstock.

Hi Kaz,

I can wait.  Put me back to your list for a grafted one.

Thanks,
Al

15
Hi Kaz,

I ordered a grafted one from you last year, but didn't hear back from you.  I assumed you didn't have enough for everyone.  If you are doing another one.  I would like to order a grafted one since I don't have any rootstock.

Thanks,
Al

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Pinkish guava seeds for sale

From what I recall, the Carmine can be divided into four varieties: Palace Pink, Full Red, Born Red, and Big Leaf Red; with palace pink and full red being the best.

not  “four varieties”,It's five series.

宫粉红 gong fen hong --Palace Pink
全红 quan hong --Full Red
出世红chu shi hong --Born Red
大叶红da ye hong --Big Leaf Red
七月红qi yue hong --July Red

七月红是最多人种植的一个系列( July Reds are one of the most widely grown series.)

What is real carmine guava

The taste of carmine is very peculiar, with three different flavors in the inner and outer layers.  Although carmine guavas all look similar, they are actually divided into 5 varieties: palace pink, full red, born red, big leaf red, and July red. Among them, palace pink and full red are the top grades.

The palace pink fruit is pear-shaped, medium-sized, with smooth flesh and sweet taste. Half of the ripe peel turns pink. It matures from mid-October to late November.

The whole red fruit is pear-shaped, medium-large, with an average fruit weight of 78 grams. The peel is medium-thick. When mature, the whole fruit is dark red and shiny, with thick flesh and medium flavor. The fruit matures from mid-September to late October.
