Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Kwai Muk (Artocarpus parvus) Varieties

Gotcha, I've been terrible with mangos too

My kwai muk grew from 3ft in a 3gal pot to 7 ft after one year in the ground.  It was also under a papaya for shade until recently when the papaya broke in half.
It grew long, but doesn't have many leaves.  I guess it can grow in 8.2pH soil with lots of compost.  I'm not sure it can survive this Phoenix summer without shade.
I got it from toptropicals.  They call it Jesses Creme de la Creme.  It doesn't look grafted and toptropocals doesn't say if it's airlayered or seedling.  The root ball was too big for me to check for that.
I bought some seedling kwai muk from etsy and they grew slowly in cactus mix for a year.  After I up-potted them in regular potting soil last summer they began to decline for some reason.
Maybe they needed more aeration in the soil, but the Jesses Creme de la Creme grew very well in the same regular potting soil.  I'm baffled
Here's what my ugly tree looks like:

wow, your mango trees look great

I wish they are mangos.  They are white sapotes.  Mangos hate my soil and I don't have time to pamper them.
My kwai muk is still alive with some unburnt small leaves.  It even put out some flowers in June.  I painted all the branches and trunk for sun protection.
I guess Kwai Muk is somewhat heat and sun resistant on par with Kohala longan or Starfruit here in Phoenix.

Haven't heard from you in a few weeks now.

Hey I’m so sorry, we had some family issues after recovering from Covid, planning to ship yours Monday but forgot to email you, so sorry again

Hope you and your family are feeling better with no lingering side effects. It's a shame how the virus is still affecting so many people

In one of Joe Hewitt's youtube videos I remember that his Kwai Muk grew pretty well in the Bay Area. I'm trying to grow it out here because of that.

Thats awesome. Way to go

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Rosso Blood Lemon
« on: August 11, 2022, 01:27:47 AM »
I don't think I have anything to trade that you dont already have. That Aus Blood Lime you sent me is doing well though. If you decide to sell I would be interest. I'm only growing a few citrus but something like this def seems interesting.

317
Plus can't you root it from a cutting? Maybe someone on the forum can sell you a few good sticks. I'm not growing any of the spondias yet.

I would rather have a colonoscopy everyday for the next 10 years than to give 1 cent to Shamus O'Leary.  There might not be a bigger a$$hole in the state of AZ.

After speaking with a few nurseries owners the past few years seems like many dont hold him in the highest regards. I have also decided not to shop there anymore after hearing some stories. I'd rather just grow something from seed or buy from this community.

Also, don't they put you under for colonoscopies? Can't be that bad ;)

I'd say go for it and try to reach out to local non-profits to see if they can help guide you through the process. Since land is such a premium there, you would probably have to get creative where to place it. For something like this I'd imagine you would face bureaucracy anywhere so don't let that deter you.

And W....which Californian hurt you?

Really cool, thanks for passing this along

I bought about five varieties of the saramoyos. Only 2 out of 5 germinated using the moist vermiculite in a baggie for like 6 months

I have an extra Pink Yucutan Saramoyo I can send you achetadmoestica if you pay for postage. My summer heat made a big dent on it but its starting to bounce back now that I have been giving it more compost tea. Its the runt of my litter. I only have 2 Pink Yucatans and 2 Tikyal Reds left but thats plenty for me. Let me know if your interested.
.

I am sorry I thought you said pollinating not germinating

I put Eugenia seeds in damp vermiculite in a baggie.
If the vermiculite is not too wet the seeds will germinate if they are good.
I leave the seeds on my counter if you kept them outside they would
germinate quicker. The only annona seeds I have germinated are
the common ones like A squamosa, A. reticulata,
I put them in between damp papertowels in a larger baggie.
I change the paper towels every 2-3 days. I had some saramoyo
seeds and left them in damp vermiculite for 6 months but they never germinated.

Wish I had bird problems instead of the bark scorpions and black widow spiders I see. Feels like every time i go to lift up a pot I'm risking my life
