Odd shaped Dragonfruit Stems
« on: August 07, 2021, 05:59:21 PM »
Was wondering if anyone has seen this before or knows why this happens. More of a curiosity rather than a problem. Sometimes my Dragonfruit shoots come out weird like a typical cactus instead of the three sides. Most seem to correct themselves eventually but some keep growing oddly.

Perfectly normal. Basically it’s the result of a flower bud deciding to become a branch👍

I have a very unusual red dragon fruit plant. I had this plant which I got in a 1 gallon pot 2 years ago and it grows very slowly. When the new shoots grow out it shows lots of thorns but once it is mature there are no thorns (or almost none). I am calling this one Fatty Red DF. When I got this plant all of the dark green growth were fat or puffy looking like the 3rd photo.

I wonder if it will ever grow large enough to have flowers. Have you seen this type of growth before ? I think its very unique.
