Lucuma diagnosis: pest, fungus, or something else?
« on: December 29, 2023, 01:09:11 AM »
I have been having problems with my Lucuma (Pouteria lucuma) for the last couple months. The new leaves are growing deformed. Also there are tiny black spots & holes on the leaves.

Advice?

Looks like some kind of bug maybe chewed on the young leaves and then they came out malformed later, not a huge deal. The little black spots look to be winter cold / rain induced.

Also, if the young leaves are bouncing off stuff in the wind you can get that kind of look.

Overall I would not be concerned about what I see here.

Take a look during the night with a flashlight.  Look at the newest growth, even buds.  I agree with Kevin that it appears to be from new leaves just expanding and being tasted by insect or snail/slug.
