Mango ID please???

This mango was grown in Orlando just North of I4. It is very large mango having bumpy skin, with orange fiber-less flesh and a smooth texture. It was very sweet, like syrup having an orange citrus flavor with a hint of coconut. Each bite had different flavor combinations but all were very sweet. These ripened in June this year. We ate another one under ripe and it tasted exactly like an orange. Any guesses to what it is?

It does look like one. The flesh was pretty orange and the flavor also. Oh yeah, one seed appeared to be mono and the other looked poly to me. Not helping the ID...

Pettigrew only has darker flesh in the center/overly ripe, usually it's a whiter flesh.

Maybe its related.

On another note, I've suspected that Pettigrew is poly for a few years, but noone has found evidence to back it up.

Pettigrew has very distinctive foilage, leaves very narrow and long. Ripens unevenly, hence the different flavors. This fruit sure looks like it (unripe are very dark green).Could be a seedling too. These trees are pretty rare, neat that you found one.

The tree did have long leaves. The unripe mango was orange near the seed and the flesh got lighter in color toward the skin and near the skin was almost white. Sounds like you nailed it Oolie. The thing that confuses me is they taste just like an orange and super sweet. Best fruit I have ever put in my mouth.
Pettigrew is suppose to be in the coconut group, these two I would say should belong in the citrus group. Could be a seedling. Next time I am over there, I will look for a graft union on the trunk.

Ok, here is the neighboring tree and the fruits were also ripening in June. That is an extra large egg in the photo. The fruit was a well balance citrus flavor and flesh was more firm, almost like a knox blocks gelatin consistency. Nothing punchy or bold in the flavor but a very good mango. This fruit was green on the tree, even fully developed. These are pictured one week post harvest and perfectly ripe.

Commonly referred to as the 'Gary' Flavor, it originally comes from Pettigrew. The flavor is like an orange creamsicle/ 50-50 bar type flavor.

It's a nice mellow citrus flavor that is well represented in descendants like O2/Peach Cobbler.
The Coconut flavor of Pettigrew/descendants is only for fruit that make it to riper stages without breakdown, so the tree requires more Ca/ earlier fruit picking for the fruit to get there without off flavors/ jelly seed. If you search these boards Pettigrew has a following for the ON years.

@Oolie First mystery mango. Orange sickle is a prefect description of the flavor! Super sweet orange flavor. Like you said, it must ripen unevenly because there where notes of fruits and then a finishing note of coconut. Amazing! If it is pettigrow, I can see why people love it for the good years.

@Greater Good, first mystery mango is definitely orange flavored and bumpy. Ugly Betty was my first thought but this one has no resin, none at all. Also it was a very green color at maturity, turned yellowish seven days after it was harvested and was perfectly ripe. I believe Ugly Betty will blush. Please correct me if I am wrong.

@Greater Good, it does have the bumpy skin and color of a coconut cream. I thing Oolie nailed the first mystery mango. Although the deep orange flesh and strong orange flavor is not typical Pettigrew, all other aspects of the tree and fruit are typical of Pettigrew.
What are your thoughts on the second mystery mango? Looks Indian or of that shape anyway.

Orange Essence is a firm fleshed fruit like Kent.

Though the shape is wrong, the taste and texture description remind me a lot of Peach Cobbler/O2

The second mystery mango is poly-embryonic. Two trees sprouted from one of the seeds. The other has only sent up one shoot so far.
