Folks it's that time of year again.  It was a good year as far as issues, no real hidden expenses to worry about.  We celebrated 10 years online, and now have almost half a million posts!  As always, we are a non-proifit organization that relies on this once a year fundraiser to cover the costs of domain and webhosting.  We will likely run the fundraiser this Friday, and a PayPal email address will be provided to send donations to.  The fundraiser is usually over pretty quickly, as we only collect enough to cover our costs.  Donating members will be added to the annual donors list that is stickied on the forums.

Happy Holidays! And thank you for being a members and contributing content all year round!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Email Function Restored!
« on: October 09, 2021, 09:21:44 PM »
The forum's email function has been restored! You can now send emails to other members using the envelope picture in their profile.  This will likely also restore the ability for the forum to send reset password and forum notifications out as well..

« on: March 04, 2021, 09:26:19 AM »
After 11 years our forum is finally running on a secure platform! Our SSL Cert went into effect this morning without issue! This will allow additional members that were limited by our lack of SSL to join!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Another Outage!! Sorry Folks!
« on: February 28, 2021, 08:34:55 PM »
We had another glitch in the old site this evening.  I was able to get the site back up and running.  We are running on an older version of SMF so it was getting glitchy with the newer hosting platform.   Some of you may have noticed the lack of the ability to get to the site using search engines.  We reset the forum to the basic version to avoid conflicts, and restored the search engine optimization capability in the process! No data was lost.. We are good to go! (for now...)

Happy Holidays! It's that time of year again when we ask the members here to chip in what they can to keep us a member run private forum.  We have been up and running nine years now with the support of our members, and hope to keep it that way for years to come! I paid for the hosting of the website today at a total of $180.22 (receipt attached).  We had an incident mid year that required us to move to another hosting platform that cost about $100 to do, however the result lowered the annual cost for now!

If you have the ability to please support our forum! We can accept Paypal donations sent to ***Fundraiser Completed for 2021!***, that's me.  We are not looking to profit from the site, so please post what you contribute here so that others can see how much we are raising!

And thank you all of course for you continued involvement and support of the tropical fruit forum, we hope it benefits the tropical fruit collecting world!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Additional Photo Option
« on: December 21, 2019, 01:18:07 PM »
It was brought to my attention that people were having issues adding photos to posts.  I have added an additional feature to the forum in the form of a blue "p" at the bottom of the text field when posting.  This should work if the old green "add image to post" doesn't!

It's that time of year again.. I just paid for the upcoming year's internet services required to keep the forum Ad and cost free to all our members. I once again am asking for donations only to cover the cost of the actual charges to run the site..  If you donate please be sure to make it known in a post below so others know how much is being collected.  I have attached the receipt for the total paid bill for reference. Thank you on behalf of all our member's in advance to any of those who choose to support the forum this year!

Paypal funds to ******************(use gift feature to avoid fees if at all possible.) Once the funds have reached the total I will delete the Paypal info and cease to collect any further..

Total costs paid to Godaddy for 2020.. $459.87

UPDATED : In order to go to a secure website I had to upgrade our Hosting to Deluxe Hosting with cPanel.  We were charged a one time migration fee of $99.99 in addition to the Deluxe Hosting.  Please send any small donation you can, for now this is all out of pocket for me. In the next few days our site will be migrated over to a secure platform and will eventually have the "secure" lock to the right of the url in your browsers search bar.  This will allow us to appear in Google searches again and secure our site in general.

Thanks again..

Its that time of year again folks.. Our web host costs for another year of advertising free tropical fruit discussion.   The admins of this site hope that we can continue to provide this service and not sell out to the corporate machines that fund most sites.  I have attached the screen shot of what it will take to keep us going.. If we dont get it paid by the 25th of December we lose the site..

The total needed to raise for this calendar year is $177.39.

Once you send a payment post the amount you have donated if you wish to this post and once we reach the goal I will use the money to pay the web host immediately.  I will also post a screen shot of the payment made..

Thank you for your support...

I have approximately ten days to secure our server for another year.  I plan to post my PayPal email in this topic in the next day or so to allow people to make donations to keep the forum alive.  We are 100% self sufficient and rely on no advertising whatsoever.

Like last year anyone who donates is required to post the donation and amount in this topic so that all donations are public.  At the end of the fundraiser I will pay the entire amount to our hosting provider and provide an copy of the receipt for proof!

I hope everyone enjoys the forum and can make a small contribution... No obligations of course...

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annual fundraiser to support the forum
« on: November 17, 2015, 06:54:30 AM »

This is a copy of the total cost of renewal for the year we just paid for continued service.. Although the forum is 100% free to join, use, and enjoy, this is the basic monetary cost to operate.. If you would like to donate feel free to paypal funds to account ***************.  Any amount is greatly appreciated and please make a public post in this thread as to the amount of your donation... We wish to only collect $133.90 or less..  If by any chance we collect additional funds the money will be used to further extend the hosting and a receipt will be made public!  There is a slight cost of using paypal that we will absorb..

WE ARE FUNDED FOR THIS YEAR!!! THANKS TO ALL THAT DONATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Vexator Blooms
« on: April 03, 2015, 07:35:20 PM »
I know its a horrible photo but you get the drift..

I have seen these on one branch of my M.vexator  the past couple years, the tree is about 4'x4' age roughly 5yrs?

No fruit sets and all blooms appear on this one branch only.. How long before the tree begins to bloom all over from this stage (Adam)??

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Lotus Fruit Trees
« on: March 22, 2015, 08:28:02 PM »
In case anyone was wondering.. My wife and I are still operating a very small nursery in West Palm Beach Florida.  While 80% of what we sell is brokered, we still maintain very low prices and excellent customer service.  My career has limited my ability to really promote or grow the business, but that's not what we are about anyway.  We were operating the business under my given name "Brooks" but unfortunately were unable to use the name for certain legal reasons.  Its really a shame, we spent four years developing a web position, and had just started to see results.  We have a new website www.lotusfruittrees.com and inside it we maintain a blog with up to date information about our maintenance of our home property that many find useful.  Feel free to contact my wife with local orders, we unfortunately do not ship at this time.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Are dragon fruit thorns toxic?
« on: March 09, 2015, 02:47:06 PM »
I poked the back of my hand pretty well moving some Natural Mystic cuttings yesterday evening.  I am almost 100% certain I removed any trace of the thorns.  About an hour after my hand began to throb and has swollen a little as of today.  The area is red and super sore.  Anyone else have similar experiences?
